Job Overview:
This position is responsible to manage mechanical construction and maintenance projects in West Coast (California) refineries. The Project Manager will have responsibility, authority, and accountability to support the planning and execution of projects and programs. Responsibilities include execution, planning, effective budgeting, operational and financial oversight of project.
This position involves a high level of responsibility requiring best in class construction experience, strong interpersonal skills, excellent management skills, and the ability to effectively communicate to all levels of company management, internal and external stakeholders, and customers. Required experience includes the ability to mentor senior staff, project management professionals, and members of project teams in project execution deliverables.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
- Commitment to safety and track record of recordable incident-free projects
- Will work with contract administration and contract management, CPM scheduling, project logic development, and project planning
- In-depth expertise in managing fixed price, cost reimbursable and/or hybrid commercial structure construction projects.
- Ensure work is within a pre-scheduled budget and is completed expeditiously with accuracy and exceptional quality and within organization's policy and by-laws
- Keep abreast of developments and changes within the industry and competitors
- Will need to allocate staff and resources to meet objectives and investigate and implement ways to improve the efficiency of a service or operation
- Attends meetings with project managers and business line management to plan bid strategy and ascertaining methods of performance based on the scope of work in accordance with APTIM policies, procedures and authority delegations.
- Participate in bid reviews and project status review meetings in a leadership capacity
- Facilitate project reviews to ensure the status and performance data is provided to management and stakeholders. Uses Best Practice Program, fostering creative thought and coaching in presentation and development and best practice implementation.
- Travel throughout the West Coast as needed to pursue new opportunities and manage projects
- Lead/Participate in the development of new processes or tools, finding better ways to communicate information and help standardize process needs for the PM Team
Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum of 10 years of successful experience in industrial construction/project management.
- Specific experience in oil refineries is preferred.
- Proven, consistent, successful prior performance managing large and complex projects/programs
- Thorough understanding of industry practices, processes, and standards, and their impact on project activities
- Superior oral and written communication and interpersonal skills essential with management, project team, customers, and other stakeholders
- Knowledge of Health & Safety standards and practices, and a history of effective implementation
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, comfortable learning additional software as required
- Specific tank construction/repair techniques and knowledge preferred
- Working knowledge and understanding of API 650/653 preferred
- Must have a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) or be eligible to get one
