Responsibilities:
Strategy Development:
Develop a comprehensive strategy to establish and sustain a strong safety culture within the entire organization.
Assist in the design of, implement, and communicate the company's health and safety policies, programs, and procedures, ensuring alignment with regulatory standards and industry best practices.
Leadership and Advocacy:
Champion the importance of safety awareness and compliance across all levels of the organization.
Foster a culture of safety ownership, engagement, and continuous improvement across all levels of the organization from executive leadership to frontline employees.
Provide leadership to claims management, setting clear goals and fostering a culture of service excellence and continuous improvement.
Policy and Procedure:
Develop and implement safety policies, fleet-safety policies, procedures, handbooks, and guidelines that establish overall safety standards while addressing the unique challenges associated with field work.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate safety protocols into various processes, systems, and workflows, ensuring seamless adoption across the distributed work environments.
Regularly review and update safety protocols to reflect changing work dynamics and emerging best practices.
Training and Education:
Design and deliver engaging safety training programs tailored to the various workplace environments focused on their respective dynamics.
Create and implement regular trainings with the leadership to align and calibrate on continuous improvement, leading a safety culture, and safety objectives.
Communication and Engagement:
Establish effective communication channels to disseminate safety information, alerts, and updates to remote teams.
Facilitate open feedback loop on safety concerns and feedback, encouraging active participation, immediate incident/injury reporting, and fostering a sense of shared responsibility.
Liaise with regulatory agencies, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal health and safety regulations, and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of changes in requirements.
Risk Assessment and Mitigation:
Analyze incident data and trends, conducting thorough investigations into accidents and near-miss incidents to identify potential safety risks inherent to the various environments and develop mitigation strategies.
Design and implement regular safety audits, inspections, and evaluations to identify areas for improvement and monitor compliance with established protocols.
Stay informed about emerging health and safety trends, technologies, and practices, and recommend innovative solutions to enhance the company's safety programs.
Data Analysis and Reporting:
Implement data-driven approaches to monitor safety metrics, track incidents, and measure the effectiveness of safety initiatives.
Prepare and present reports to executive leadership, highlighting safety performance and areas for improvement.
Claims Management
Streamline claims processes to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and employee satisfaction.
Oversee claims adjudication, review complex cases, and participate in final settlement decisions.
Manage relationships with external partners, such as insurance carriers, third-party adjusters, brokers, and legal counsel, to ensure effective claims handling.
Qualifications:
Proven experience in health, safety, and environment leadership roles, ideally in distributed teams’ settings. Preferred- bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, Environmental Science, or related field.
Strong understanding of distributed teams work dynamics and the associated safety challenges including fleet safety.
Professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, or CHMM are highly desirable.
Proven ability to develop, implement, and manage effective health and safety programs.
Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives.
Thorough knowledge of health and safety regulations, guidelines, and standards.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills.
Travel as needed to maximize impact to the distributed workforce and to participate in stakeholder engagements.
Analytical mindset with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
Strategic thinker with the capacity to envision and drive long-term safety culture goals.
Tech-savvy with the ability to leverage digital tools for training, communication, and data analysis.
