Job Title: Ultrasound Technician (Medical Instrument Technician – MIT)
Location: VA Long Beach Healthcare System (VALBHS), 5901 E. 7th St., Long Beach, CA 90822
Schedule: Variable shifts (Day, Evening, Weekend); up to 10-hour shifts
Pay: $60.00/hr plus 4.93 for Health and Wellness. Position will also provide benefits, PTO, and Sick Leave
Contract Period: June 1, 2025 – May 31, 2026 (with potential for option years)
Employment Type: Full-Time Contract (up to 2,080 hours/year)
Position Summary:
We are seeking skilled Ultrasound Technicians (MITs) to provide diagnostic medical sonography services to Veterans at the VA Long Beach Healthcare System. Technicians will independently operate ultrasound equipment, assist with interventional procedures, and ensure high-quality imaging and patient care.

Primary Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform a wide variety of diagnostic ultrasound exams including abdominal, OB/GYN, vascular, musculoskeletal, neck, and chest.
- Operate ultrasound equipment and use independent judgment to assess image quality.
- Assist in interventional radiology procedures such as biopsies, aspirations, and catheter placements using sterile techniques.
- Coordinate care with physicians, nurses, and other departments.
- Input patient data into CPRS and Radiology Vista systems and transmit images via PACS (AGFA experience preferred).
- Maintain exam room, equipment, and inventory of medical supplies.
- Prioritize emergency/critical care exams and provide timely service delivery.
- Follow protocols for Reusable Medical Equipment (RME) and ensure proper sanitation and disinfection.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Certification: Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) certification required.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of recent (within the last 3 years) diagnostic medical sonography experience.
- BLS Certification: Must hold a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- PACS Experience: Prior work with PACS systems required; AGFA PACS experience preferred.
- Communication: Must be fluent in English and proficient in computer usage.
- Pass pre-assignment health screenings and immunization requirements (Hep B, TB, MMR, etc.).
- Complete background check and security clearance via VetPro.
- Must complete VA-mandated training including HIPAA, cybersecurity, patient privacy, and infection control.
- Maintain professional appearance and adhere to federal conduct standards.
- Work collaboratively under supervision of VA staff and participate in performance improvement activities.
