Job Summary
Job Title: Medical Technologist (Med Tech)
Location: White River Junction VA Medical Center
Job Summary:
The Medical Technologist (MT) will perform clinical laboratory testing in areas such as Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Urinalysis, Blood Bank, and Coagulation. The MT will ensure quality control, instrument maintenance, and compliance with VA and CAP (College of American Pathologists) standards.
Primary Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine and complex diagnostic laboratory tests using automated and manual techniques.
- Perform quality control procedures and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions.
- Evaluate and validate test results, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
- Participate in proficiency testing and adhere to CAP and VA quality assurance protocols.
- Operate and maintain laboratory instruments such as Abbott Architect ci8200, Sysmex, ACL Top, and Beckman Coulter analyzers.
- Assist with specimen processing and reporting of critical values.
- Adhere to safety protocols and maintain HIPAA compliance.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field.
- National certification as a Medical Technologist (MT, MLS, or CLS) from ASCP or AMT.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in clinical chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and blood bank testing.
- Familiarity with VA laboratory policies and compliance requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Desired Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a VA or federal medical center.
- Knowledge of electronic health records (EHR) and laboratory information systems (LIS).
