Are you looking for a fantastic career at Aqua America? We have a great opportunity for an Environmental Compliance Specialist. The Environment Compliance Specialist II (Corporate) performs a variety of tasks to support Aqua’s compliance functions across our footprint in PA, NJ, OH, IL, IN, VA, NC, and TX. Primary responsibilities include overall management of the Consumer Confidence Reports (CCRs) program and Public Notices (PN) process to ensure accuracy and adherence to company requirements. Secondary responsibilities include supporting corporate information management initiatives such as our Environmental Management Information System (Cority), water quality database system (SAMS), and water source protection software (WaterSuite). Additionally, the ECS II may support developing various types of plans and compliance reporting for states related to water, wastewater, waste, air, tanks, etc.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Manages the CCR program across Aqua to ensure accuracy of reports, distribution of reports to customers through multiple methods, and posting to Aqua’s website.
  • Manages the PN process across Aqua to coordinate review of drafted PNs by compliance, operations, communications, and legal staff.
  • Supports the development of our information management systems by becoming familiar with each of these systems, learning how to build and use reports, and leading efforts to expand the use of these systems within the company.
  • Reviews and analyzes new and proposed environmental regulations and define potential impact of regulations.
  • Collaborates with the Aqua state compliance managers to support preparation for and adherence with new regulations .
  • Leads in the development of various types of plans including emergency response, drought contingency, hazardous algal bloom plans, etc. as various needs may arise.
  • Assists with compliance reporting efforts associated with water, wastewater, waste, air, tanks, etc. as needed.
  • Supports sampling plan development and revision, waiver/reduced monitoring requests, and sample scheduling as needed.
  • Organizes and tracks compliance data for inclusion in corporate reports.
  • Identifies gaps in documentation or potential areas of non-compliance and recommend solutions.
  • Performs other assignments as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental or civil engineering, environmental science, chemistry, or a related field
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • 5 years of experience in water/wastewater related environmental compliance preferred
  • Experience working with databases and computerized maintenance management systems preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • A broad knowledge of Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) and Clean Water Act (CWA)
  • Familiarity with water, wastewater, air and solid waste environmental laws and regulations
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
  • Good analytical and investigative skills required to interpret data and test results
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

COVID-19 Vaccination Requirements

Essential Utilities and its subsidiaries , including Aqua, Delta, and Peoples Natural Gas, requires new hires to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, where allowable under the law. To satisfy this requirement, new hires who received the one shot regimen of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine must receive the one dose shot prior to their first day of employment. Proof of vaccination must be provided on your first day of employment. For the two shot regimen of either Pfizer or Moderna, a new hire must have received at least one dose of the vaccine before their first day of employment. Proof of the second dose date must be received within the recommended timeline based on the manufacturer’s vaccine received. For example, for Moderna as soon as the 28 day period has elapsed and for Pfizer as soon as the 21 day period has elapsed. Failure to provide proof of your COVID-19 vaccination status will result in the termination of your employment with Essential Utilities including its subsidiaries Aqua, Delta and Peoples Natural Gas.

If you are unable to be fully vaccinated due to a medical or religious exemption, you will be required to apply for an exemption on your first day of employment with Essential Utilities. As part of the process, you will be required to provide information and/or documentation to Human Resources about the reason(s) you cannot be vaccinated. If your request for an exemption is not approved, then your employment may be terminated.
