Our team needs a Surgical Medical Assistant looking for a dermatology career. The ideal Medical Assistant candidate is positive, energetic, intelligent, highly dependable, organized, and can multi-task. Our team members are responsible for assisting the Provider with patient visits, including consultations and procedures, through the following responsibilities:
Primary Duties
- Prepares treatment rooms for the examination of patients.
- Calls patients from the waiting room and places patients in the exam room
- Interview patients and record information in patients' electronic charts.
- Drapes patients with covering and positions instruments and equipment.
- Assists providers with examination or surgical procedures.
- Cleans and sterilizes instruments.
- Assists with laundry.
- Inventories and orders medical supplies and materials.
- Gives injections or treatments and performs routine laboratory tests as the provider orders.
- Draws blood and obtains urine specimens from patients. Prepares specimens for the reference laboratory and completes appropriate requisitions.
- Prepares biopsy specimens to be sent to the appropriate lab.
- Dispenses oral medications as directed by the provider.
- Educates all new patients on skin cancer and sunscreen use.
- Documents patient visits in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Assists phone triage nurse in obtaining prior authorizations for procedures or medications.
- Assists phone triage nurse as needed with prescriptions and refills to the pharmacy according to protocol.
Skills and Qualities:
- Able to demonstrate compassion and caring when dealing with others, patients, and co-workers.
- Able to prioritize tasks, understand the provider’s instructions, and know when to seek information or advice.
- Able to travel between multiple locations across the region.
Experience and Education:
- Medical Assistant (MA) Certification or Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) License
- Hands-on experience in a clinical setting
- Dermatology or surgical experience is preferred.

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
- Full-Time
- Monday - Friday 7 am - 5 pm
- Travel is required, (mileage reimbursement provided)
