Job Summary
The Utility Worker, Wastewater Operations is responsible for operating and maintaining wastewater treatment, processing, pumping, collection system, disposal, and testing equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspection, maintenance, and repair of wastewater collection systems, and their respective accessories/facilities.
- Utilize tools, operate equipment and related vehicles as required for inspection of sewer manholes; TV inspection of sanitary sewers; cleaning of manholes, sewers, pump stations and other facilities; and coordinate with the operating team to address other issues in the sewer collection, pumping and treatment systems.
- Repair and replace damaged components.
- Maintain logs and prepare reports of the completed work on standards forms provided for use.
- Prepare and maintain work zones and complete inspections of new building services, as directed.
- May be required to direct traffic.
- Mow, trim weeds/trees and pick up debris around pump stations and treatment facility.
- Responsible for care and maintenance of tools and equipment.
- Clean and maintain equipment, tanks, and other work areas.
- Maintain clean working areas and vehicles.
- Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical issues related to pumping and treatment processes.
- Completes sampling and other duties to maintain the facilities.
- Completes FOG inspections and other inspections for new services and work completed in the vicinity of sewer facilities and structures.
- Assist in meeting all related permits and associated state and federal regulations; and meeting the Company's key performance indicators.
- Assist in operation of the wastewater treatment plant process and equipment; pumping stations, and collection system to ensure compliance with the NPDES permit and meet company performance targets.
- Assists in monitoring operating conditions, meters, gauges, treatment cycles, pumping equipment, and collection system for proper operation.
- Assists in the inspection of all facilities on a scheduled basis to ensure proper operation and maintenance.
- Identifies improvements to improve reliability, regulatory compliance, and cost effectiveness.
- Works with the Chief Operator, Shift Operator and Manager of Wastewater Operations to maintain facilities, address safety issues, maintain proper plant appearance, address environmental issues, and ensure compliance with regulations and permits pertaining wastewater discharges, pollution prevention, stormwater, generator use and other federal and state regulations.
- Maintains positive relationships with operations and administrative staff, community officials, regulators, and customers.
- Assists in the Implementation of CMOM Plan related to wastewater collection system.
- Assist in meeting safety and other performance metrics on a monthly and yearly basis.
- Completes other work as directed by the Manager of Wastewater Operations and Chief Operator.
- Works in standby role and is available for emergency calls and as need and working extended hours to accommodate operational needs and requirements.
Requirements
- CT Class I or Class II Wastewater Treatment License preferred.
- OHSA 10 and Confined Space Training preferred.
- Valid Driver's License and safe driving record required; CDL and hoisting preferred.
