The Educator I will lead presentations and interact with Aquarium visitors as an educational resource. They will assist in the design and development of education materials and events.
Essential Responsibilities
- Serve as a first line instructor, presenting educational content to aquarium guests and school groups
- Conduct on-site education programs at the Aquarium and possibly off-site locations such as local schools and community centers
- Provide crowd control, supervision of guests, and educational interpretation at public touch pool
- Guide program participants through the institution, interpret relevant topics, and lead discussions regarding animal background, care and activities, environmental issues, and other topics of interest
- Serves as an educational resource to guests, groups, and staff
- Maintain inventory of interpretive tools, including animal artifacts/bio facts and activity sets
Requested Requirements
- Completed or working towards completion of a degree in natural science, education, or related field; or equivalent experience
- Strong customer service skills
- Knowledge of scientific and conservation-focused topic
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and in writing)
- Ability to address groups of all ages and aptitudes
- Flexible team player and ability to work well with staff and program participants
- Valid driver’s license and a driver in good standing
- Preferred: Previous experience presenting educational content
- Preferred: Previous experience handling and presenting live animals
- Preferred: Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office applications
Working Conditions
- Shifts will include weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Able to stand for long periods
- Able to bend and crouch
- Able to move over uneven terrain and in all weather conditions

The advertised compensation range for this position represents what we believe, at the time of posting, to be competitive and acceptable by reviewing comprehensive market data to include industry, and roles of similar responsibility and level. Within the range, wage will be determined by several factors including candidate knowledge, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
