Position Summary

Aquila is seeking a highly skilled and licensed  Well Control Equipment Reliability Engineer to join   our Houston, TX location. This role requires specialized knowledge of drilling operations, API Standards, BOP Systems, and well control principles.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Review well plans and validate selected BOP components (ram, annular preventers, control systems) are suitable for expected operations.
  • Assess BOP system and select appropriate equipment for drilling operations, ensuring they meet operational and safety requirements.
  • Perform and validate theoretical calculations relating to the BOP’s functional performance and suitability for specific environmental conditions.
  • Verify proper installation and commissioning of BOP systems on drilling rigs.
  • Review the processes to test and verify the integrity and functionality of the BOP system before drilling operations begin.
  • Provide technical guidance on pressure tests, function tests, and routine maintenance checks to ensure proper operation.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any issues with the BOP system, including hydraulic, electrical and mechanical failures.
  • Provide guidance to rig personnel on the operation and emergency procedures for BOP systems with respect to regulatory compliance.
  • Report any issues or failures to relevant stakeholders, assisting the RCFA process where applicable.
  • Ensure the BOP remains in compliance with industry safety standards and regulations.
  • Review and assess historical data used to calculate reliability metrics for predictive analytics.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Petroleum, or Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited university.
  • Must have a P.E. (Professional Engineering) license in the state of Texas.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in drilling operations, well control or blow out preventer systems.
  • Familiarity with API Standards and well control safety regulations.
  • Working Knowledge of Weibull / Blocksim, Relvence, or similar reliability tools.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge aptitude and problem solving skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of BOP Systems, well control principles, and drilling rig operations.
  • Previous experience in oil and gas industry is a plus.
