We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Youth Direct Care Counselor to join our team at a Short-Term Residential Treatment Program (STRTP). As a Youth Direct Care Counselor, you will play a crucial role in providing support, guidance, and supervision to youth in a therapeutic residential setting. This position requires a strong commitment to the well-being and development of the individuals in our care.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or relevant certifications are a plus.
- Experience working with at-risk youth in a residential setting.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles and therapeutic interventions.
- Ability to maintain a positive and supportive environment for youth with diverse needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Crisis intervention and de-escalation training is preferred.
- CPR and First Aid certification.
Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for youth residing in the STRTP.
- Implement and adhere to trauma-informed care principles in daily interactions and programming.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with youth, providing emotional support and guidance.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to create and implement individualized treatment plans for each resident.
- Monitor and document the behavior and progress of youth, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.
- Facilitate group activities, therapy sessions, and life skills workshops.
- Supervise and assist youth with daily living activities, including meal preparation, hygiene, and recreational activities.
- Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and training sessions to enhance professional development.
- Intervene in crisis situations using appropriate de-escalation techniques and protocols.
- Provide transportation as needed for off-site appointments and activities.
Duties:
- Conduct regular check-ins with youth to assess emotional well-being and address concerns.
- Collaborate with therapists, case managers, and other professionals to ensure comprehensive care.
- Implement behavior management strategies to promote positive behavior and conflict resolution.
- Ensure compliance with licensing and accreditation standards.
- Communicate effectively with families, guardians, and external stakeholders.
- Act as an advocate for the youth, promoting their rights and needs.
- Attend ongoing training to stay current on best practices in youth care.
Work Environment:
- The position may require flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Work is primarily conducted in a residential facility for at-risk youth.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and engage in physical activities with youth.
