What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Supervisor position at Aquinas College?
The field supervisor is a coach/mentor for teacher candidates in the School of Education at Aquinas College, including undergraduate and graduate apprentices and student teaching interns. The field supervisor guides, assists, and evaluates the performance of the teacher candidate in PK-12 classroom/school settings in accordance with the mission and guidelines of Aquinas College.
Key Responsibilities:
● Visit classrooms/schools where Aquinas teacher candidates have been placed.
● Monitor teacher candidate performance in the classroom via in-person or virtual observations using the teacher evaluation tool required by Aquinas College.
● Provide teacher candidates appropriate feedback and support for each observation to enhance teaching performance.
● Review teacher candidates’ online logs and provide appropriate feedback.
● Monitor student’s time, attendance, and leave requests for completeness and accuracy.
● Confer with PK-12 school staff as needed to ensure regular, punctual attendance and/or potential concerns.
● Recognize and share teacher candidates’ accomplishments and foster positive morale when providing feedback and support.
● Respect the judgment of the Cooperating Teacher (CT) in matters affecting the instructional program and other requirements of their PK-12 school or district.
● Be knowledgeable about relevant PK-12 school personnel policies, program procedures, curricular standards, and evaluation guidelines for each teacher candidate supervised.
● Be willing to learn and utilize with fidelity Aquinas College’s teacher candidate evaluation tool.
● Communicate promptly potential concerns or emerging issues to the Coordinator of the Student Teaching Internship.
● For each assigned student teaching intern, complete 4-6 written observations, two evaluations (midterm and final), conduct consensus meetings and complete the tally reports, submit the consensus scores via a Google form, and write a letter of recommendation.
o Each student teaching internship placement of 12-14 weeks requires a minimum of 4 observations.
o Each student teaching internship placement of 8-9 weeks requires a minimum of 2 observations.
o The number of observations for each teacher candidate in the apprenticeship semester will be determined by the Director of Student Teaching.
● Submit all observation and evaluation reports in a timely manner to the student teaching intern and the Coordinator of the Student Teaching Internship.
● Complete an online survey from the Michigan Department of Education each semester.
● Attend and participate in various scheduled seminars and professional development sponsored by the Aquinas School of Education as scheduled.
● Submit all necessary paperwork within 2 weeks of the end of the teacher candidate’s placement (e.g., mileage requests, evaluations).
Qualifications:
● Education:
○ Bachelor’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
● Experience:
○ Minimum of 5 years of teaching or educational administration experience at the elementary or secondary level.
○ Familiarity with systems of evaluating classroom teachers (e.g., Danielson, CPAST).
● Skills and Abilities:
○ Knowledge of current educational trends, effective instructional practices, and state certification processes.
○ Excellent skills in oral and written communication, problem solving, conflict resolution, organization, and time-management.
○ Ability to work a flexible schedule in order to travel to observations and complete all required paperwork in a timely manner.
○ Valid State of Michigan driver’s license, access to safe and reliable personal transportation, and proof of current automobile insurance.
○ Access to and proficiency working in digital environments, including email, Zoom, word processing, and spreadsheets in Microsoft and/or Google settings.
○ Facility utilizing basic office equipment (e.g., copier).
● Preferred Qualifications:
○ Previous supervisory experience.
Working Conditions:
● Travel to PK-12 Michigan schools will be required.
● Flexible work hours to accommodate travel, observations, follow-up paperwork, and meetings at the College.
● Car needed. The College will reimburse the field supervisor for travel requirements.
