Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) Emerald Coast Division is currently seeking a Fuze Mechanical Intern to work in our Weapon Physics Group Fuze Sciences Team, located in Eglin, AFB Florida. The Fuze Sciences Team currently consists of scientists and engineers performing research and development in the areas of fuze electronics, hard target engagements, electronics survivability, and material characterization. The team uses various laboratory and field test equipment to gain insight into complex physical phenomena and analyze the results to advance electronic fuzing for conventional weapons. Key customers include the US Air Force as well as other DoD clients. This position requires to be on-site at Eglin AFB, Valparaiso Florida
Under direct supervision, the successful applicant will assist in the design, assembly, set-up, operation, and data analysis of mechanical shock test apparatus to investigate the performance of candidate fuze components under dynamic load. This includes performing various experimental tests to support high-rate structural health monitoring of electronics structures and conducting analysis of the results for the government customer. The applicant will also be responsible for generating reports and presenting results as needed.

Fuze Mechanical Engineer Intern Qualifications:
- Current college student (or recent graduate) enrolled in an engineering, mathematics, or physics program
- GPA of at least 3.0
- US. Citizen, able to receive and maintain an Active DoD Security Clearance.
Fuze Mechanical Engineer Intern Required Skills:
- Experience with experimental mechanical shock testing
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Independent judgement and discretion, and strong organizational skills
- Able to work with little supervision, including setting and achieving interim milestones that support higher task objectives
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience with structural damage detection in electronics
- Experience assembling electronics, including soldering
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in pertinent field
