What are the responsibilities and job description for the Modeling and Simulation Intern position at ARA Brand?
Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) is currently seeking a Modeling and Simulation Intern to work in our Weapon Physics Group, at our Emerald Coast Division, located in Niceville, Florida. The Weapon Physics Group currently consists of scientists and engineers performing research and development in the areas of physics-based modeling and simulation, weapons effects, conventional munitions fuzing technology, detonation physics, and model optimization. The team uses various numerical tools to gain insight into complex physical phenomena and develop predictive modeling and simulation capabilities. Key customers include the US Air Force as well as other DoD clients.
Under direct supervision, the successful applicant will perform various simulations to support lethality analyses for the government customer. This includes development of simulation geometries and meshes, populating material models, and post-processing the results. The applicant will also be responsible for generating reports and presenting results as needed.

Modeling and Simulation Intern Qualifications:
- Current college student (or recent graduate) enrolled in an engineering, mathematics, or physics program
- GPA of at least 3.0
- S. Citizenship
Modeling and Simulation Intern Required Skills:
- Experience with programming
- Experience with the finite element method, computational fluid dynamics, or finite volume methods
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Strong organizational skills
- Independent judgement and discretion
- Able to work with little supervision, including setting and achieving interim milestones that support higher task objectives
Modeling and Simulation Intern Desired Skills:
- Experience with Python programming, including SciPy, NumPy, and other scientific computing libraries
- Experience with Linux OS and high-performance computing
- Experience with Sierra Solid Mechanics, Cubit, or other Department of Energy FEM tools
