Job Summary : Under limited direction from a senior level manager, the Psychiatrist uses specialized knowledge in the field of medicine and skills obtained through experience and / or specialized training to administer psychopharmacology benefits to patients of the Community Health and Research Center. Performs peer review functions to other psychiatrists in the department as well as provides competent, professional and ethical care to a designated patient population. Acts as a consultant to the clinical staff, medical assistants, program managers, quality assurance manager and the Director of the Community Health and Research. Performs all duties and responsibilities required of a psychiatrist and provides quality and cost-effective care for the designated patient population in accordance with accepted medical standards and protocols.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Administer psychopharmacology and direct care to behavioral health patients
- Develop medication policies and procedures in accordance with accepted medical standards and protocols, accreditation and funding source guidelines in conjunction with the Quality Assurance Manager and the Director of the Community Health and Research Center
- Provide consultation to clinical staff regarding patients and psychopharmacological treatments
- Participate in treatment team conferences which may include other professionals, family members and referral sources
- Document all services in compliance with the agency’s quality assurance plan
- Report on program progress at required intervals per funding guidelines
- Conduct in-service education and professional development to Mental Health department staff
- Engage in research activities that promote the knowledge and capabilities of the department and the mental health field
- Participate regularly in monthly department meetings including clinical case conferences and quarterly staff meetings
- Maintain agency confidentiality and client’s privacy in accordance to the agency’s policies and procedures
- Maintain currency in the field of psychiatry and psychopharmacology
- Follow the funding sources requirements and the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) standards applicable to the services provided
- May translate and interpret information for non-English speaking clients, as needed
- Operate standard office equipment and use required software applications
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
