Job Description
Responsible for the conservation, protection and preservation of historic furniture and historic structures. Builds, repairs, and fabricates wooden items including but not limited to furniture, doors, trims, and moldings. Repairs foundations and stonework on historic structures.
Job Responsibilities
- Active participation in the Historic Preservation Academy.
- Must understand the National Historic Preservation Act, NPS rules regulating historic preservation of NPS assets and be able to work with NPS BRM.
- Must be able to identify and / or research wood species in original construction and furniture, and repair in kind.
- Install or repair building fixtures such as doors, windows, and latches in accordance with NPS standards.
- Fabricate / repair molding, trim, muntins, rails, stools, and aprons on shapers using in kind practices.
- Repair furniture,cabinets, and shelving by proper techniques consistent with period of fabrication.
- Follow blueprints, specifications, rough sketches or oral instruction.
- Repair of any type of building material such as, but not limited to walls, floors, roofs and foundations.
- Assist Management in on-site inspections and respond to regulatory non-compliance and to the best of ability - mitigate or limit any future inspection violations.
- Work closely with Historic Preservation Manager, Facilities Manager and Aramark Safety & Risk Control Manager to identify, mitigate, and resolve risk & safety issues.
