Pay Range: $22.00-$27.50/hr

Status: Part-Time, Seasonal Hourly (Non-Exempt)

Via Ferrata Guides at Arapahoe Basin will operate and maintain the Via Ferrata and all its components safely and enjoyably for the participant through safety instruction and route guiding, course organization, and gear explanation. Stage I Essential Responsibilities:
- Operate tours of Via Ferrata safely and professionally in accordance with the operations manual and training guidelines to give each guest a day worth repeating
- Complete daily inspections of course facilities and climbing equipment, and submit documentation as directed
- Help to maintain all facilities and equipment
- Fit harnesses and helmets correctly; supervise the use of all personal safety equipment during guided tours on the Via Ferrata
- Conduct participant ground school and assess each guest’s ability to complete the Via Ferrata tour
- Respond promptly to any emergency or rescue situations that may arise
- Perform Via Ferrata rescue operations, including stabilizing, moving, and lowering of participants in accordance with operations manual
- Attend ongoing in-service trainings and staff meetings to maintain proficiency
- Assist with food and beverage offerings before and after tours
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
Education Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must successfully complete required, site-specific training course(s)
- Current First Aid/CPR certification
Experience Requirements:
- Previous customer service experience required
- Previous experience working in the climbing, high-alpine guiding or other related industry – preferred
- Previous climbing experience – preferred
Skills Required:
- Excellent verbal communication skills and public speaking ability required for guest interaction.
- Ability to work at heights with the use of fall protection and has full understanding of proper rope handling techniques including self-rescue, rope anchoring, haul systems, and belay techniques.
- Must be able to identify object dangers associated with the high alpine environment.
- Excellent customer service skills to assist our guests in having a day worth repeating
Physical Requirements:
- Must be physically capable of completing all elements of the Via Ferrata course
- Ability to lift most or all of your own body weight while climbing on exposed rock faces and potentially lifting guests up and out of various positions on exposed rock faces. Must be able to facilitate a mid-line rescue.
- Use full range of body motion: bend, twist, kneel, push, pull and lift up to 75 lbs.
- Stand, walk and climb on uneven surfaces and exposed rock faces for up to 8 hours
- Withstand high altitude conditions at all times
Other Requirements:
- Must be available weekends and holidays
Work Environment:
- You will work almost 100% of the time outdoors in a high-altitude, high-alpine environment. Most work is performed in a highly trafficked area in view of guests. A very frequent amount of high-volume guest interaction is involved in this role. Exposure to heights is very frequent and you will be required to spend hours on an exposed rock face. Physically engaging with guests in rescue or other applicable situations is required.

Via Ferrata Guide Staging Program

Guide Stage II: Pay Range: $22.75-$30.75/hr
Fulfills all stage I responsibilities and requirements in addition to the following:
- Hold a current/valid Emergency Medical Technician, or American Mountain Guide Association Single Pitch or Multi-Pitch Instructor certification, or have 2-3 years previous Via Ferrata guiding experience
- Perform daily morning course inspections and safety protocols including completing required written daily logs
- Assist with inventorying equipment and other equipment maintenance
- Perform other duties as assigned
Guide Stage III: Pay Range: $23.50-$34.00/hr
Fulfills all stage I-II responsibilities and requirements in addition to the following:
- Have >3 years of Via Ferrata guiding experience or an American Mountain Guide Association Rock Instructor, Assistant Rock Guide, or Rock Guide certification
- Be willing and able to train/mentor newer guides
- Assist the Via Ferrata Manager/Supervisor with monthly course inspections
- Occasionally serve as the opening and/or closing person for the day
- Lead periodic trainings on guide practice/safety
- Perform other duties as assigned
