Job Title: Community Engagement Specialist

Reports To: Relationship Development Manager
Purpose: The Community Engagement Specialist plays a critical role in fostering and expanding relationships within the Grand Rapids community to drive membership growth at Arbor Financial Credit Union. This position is responsible for increasing member engagement through strategic and creative ideas through school-based events, student teaching opportunities, new employee orientations, sponsorship initiatives, and more.
Responsibilities:
- Act as the credit union’s ambassador with a primary focus on membership growth within our Grand Rapids footprint
- Develop relationships that strengthen Arbor Financials’ presence, particularly within schools, chambers of commerce, and other local organizations that align with our mission to empower financial growth
- Host and promote Arbor Financial events for students and employees, focusing on membership growth and financial literacy
- Conduct outreach to prospective members and employer groups, including participating in hiring events, community fairs, and other high-visibility gatherings
- Build new partnerships through in-person events, coordinating with select employer groups, schools, and other local businesses
- Identify and recommend sponsorship opportunities to grow membership, build brand recognition, and maximize participation in sponsored activities
- Promote Arbor’s involvement in community events through social media and collaborating with the marketing department
- Maintain an up-to-date understanding of Arbor Financials’ products and services and confidently share these with the community
- Uphold credit union policies, procedures, and all relevant legal and regulatory standards
- Safeguard members, employees, and organizational confidentiality and security
- Embody Arbor’s core values and commitment to excellent member service
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience in relationship-building roles, ideally with a focus on community engagement
- Knowledge of the Grand Rapids market and community networks
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent industry-recognized certifications
- Experience in financial services and a strong sales and service background
Skills, Abilities, and Other Requirements:
- Flexibility to attend events as needed, including varying hours and weekends
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including confident public speaking abilities that would be impactful for diverse audience sizes
- Strong computer proficiency including Microsoft Teams, Office 360, including Excel
- Valid driver’s license: travel to various locations required
- Self-motivated and able to work independently while supporting team efforts
- Effective under pressure with strong organizational and time management skills
- Attention to detail, analytical skills, and accountability
- Professional demeanor and commitment to personal accountability
- Ability to be bonded
