What are the responsibilities and job description for the Batch Operator position at Arc Americas?
SUMMARY
Batch Operator reports to the Batch and Furnace superintendent and is responsible for unloading and handling of all raw materials, proper weighing/mixing, and delivery of mixed batch to the melting furnaces.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Nothing in this job description restricts management’s right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time.
- Unload raw materials always; verify raw materials being unloaded by checking truck driver’s paperwork/rail car number, and doing a visual inspection/comparison of the material being delivered. Record delivery information in computer.
- Take necessary corrective actions for any malfunctions, and verify proper repairs; monitor cullet storage bins, crushers, and conveyors for proper operation.
- Operate the batch blending/mixing system equipment, raw material scales mixers, bucket elevators, and all related equipment.
- Monitor the batch, computer operations (weighing, feeding, discharging), making authorized changes in batch weights (as directed), and adding cullet to batch at the specified percentage.
- Read the entries in the log book, stay in communication with the furnace operator, and fill out the log book.
- Review any overnight problems/ actions that may have been taken by the previous batch house operator or maintenance personnel.
- Check vehicle position at the unloading station, obtain samples of the material to verify weight/density, and send a sample of material to the lab for analysis.
- Store material in the correct storage bin by using proper ID code, maintain and monitor proper operation of material storage equipment.
- Maintain the safety and cleanliness of the Batch House and unloading areas.

- Mechanically inclined, ability to exercise logical approach to troubleshooting problems.

- Needs to be reliable and a self-starter; can work independently with minimal supervision.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 75 lbs.
- Ability to carry up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to work at elevated heights and high temperatures
