Job Title: Process Control Technician (Electronic Technician)
Shift: Dayshift (6am-2:00pm) On Call Duty Rotation
Department: Maintenance
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
SUMMARY
Primary function is to install, troubleshoot and repair complex control equipment, involving work of varied nature with minimum supervision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
- Diagnose complex electrical and electronic equipment failures.
- Perform work in the control technician’s skill area such as troubleshooting wiring of control cabinets and control circuits.
- Test faulty equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test equipment or software, and applying knowledge of the functional operation of electronic units and systems.
- Study blueprints, schematics, manuals, or other specifications to determine installation procedures.
- Repair or adjust equipment, machines, or defective components, and replacing worn parts,
- Inspect components of industrial equipment for accurate assembly and installation or for defects, such as loose connections or frayed wires.
- Occasionally performs work in other trades, directs work of helpers as required, and completes routine paperwork as required.
- Uses typical control technician’s tool, works from drawings, verbal instructions, or sketches, and uses shop math.
- Cleans debris and lubricant from parts, work area, and equipment.
- Maintain equipment logs that record performance problems, repairs, calibrations, or tests.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Must be able to troubleshoot and interpret PLCs
- Excellent troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to operate all shop equipment.
- Ability to work safely around gas, oxygen, and combustion air.
- Good mechanical skills.
- Ability to use a Multimeter, Amprobe, Megger
- Able to read Electrical prints and drawings
- Able to work with Voltages from 5- 600 VAC and DC
- Knowledgeable in best practices of Electrical Safety
- Drive knowledge (Servo drive and VFD drive)
- Must be able to work in a team and have good communication skills
- Strong analytical problem solving and productivity improvement skills
- 480V: 3 phase and single phase
- 24V and 48V AC/DC circuits & motors
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
- Degree/Diploma in Electrical and/or Instrumentation Technology preferred.
- 2 years’ experience in the Process and Control field in a similar industry.
- Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to carry up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to work at elevated heights and high temperatures
- Ability to work overtime when requested, possibly with little/no notice
- Ability to work on ladders, scaffolds, and in pits.
