The ARC Maternal & Infant Program was created in response to state legislation calling for a program where justice involved women could give birth outside of prison or jail and keep their infant with them in a safe and stimulating community setting. ARC has operated the Maternal & Infant Program continuously since it began in 1993.
Our Team: ARC Maternal & Infant Program uses an integrated, multi-disciplinary, family-focused, strengths-based approach to comprehensive case management and SUD treatment services to address the social determinants of women’s health and to improve the quality of life for women and their families affected by substance use disorders. Core staff members include: SUD Counselor, Parenting Educator, Case Manager and Program Manager. WE LOVE BABIES!
Responsibilities of a SUD Counselor:
· Provide substance use disorder assessments and treatment/continuing care plans the first day of a resident’s arrival into the program
· Coordinate individual substance use disorder treatment plans with the resident, Program Manager, and Case Managers
· Facilitate substance use disorder treatment groups using the designated evidence-based curricula
· Provide individual substance use disorder counseling sessions for one hour weekly
· Update treatment and continuing care plans and ASAM level of care weekly
· Work collaboratively with other substance use disorder treatment agencies and provide referrals to community providers
· Monitor and supervise residents & their babies
· Work assigned shifts to meet the needs of resident and the agency
· Participate in required clinical supervision and training necessary to maintain certification as a substance abuse counselor or substance abuse counselor-in-training
Qualifications as a SUD Counselor:
- Knowledge of substance use disorder treatment, gender responsive programming, ability to engage clients, knowledge of motivational interviewing, ASAM, DSM-5-TR, knowledge of cognitive behavioral therapy, and ability to maintain a safe, stable residential treatment environment, and implement principles of trauma-informed care.
- At least six months of experience providing services to Justice involved women
- Experience with Medicaid prior authorizations is a PLUS!!
- MSW or related advanced degree preferred. A BA in Social Work, or a related degree, with work experience and knowledge is acceptable.
- Certification as a substance abuse counselor or substance abuse counselor-in-training is required! (If an employer is needed for SAC-IT, this is acceptable)
