Position Description

The Parent to Parent Coordinator is a full-time, non-exempt position responsible for the implementation of the Parent to Parent (P2P) program. The P2P program provides culturally responsive peer support to parents who have children ages 21 and younger with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), including information, referral, outreach activities, social events, informal support groups, Helping Parent activities, and P2P program-related workshops/trainings.

Department: Outreach

Supervisor: Multicultural Family Support Program Manager

Other Key Relationships: Director of Information and Family Support, all members of The Arcs Outreach and Advocacy Team, Representative Payee Coordinator, Supported Living Program, and Fund Development

Essential Functions

  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of IDD services and resources.
  • Accurately responds to and strives to resolve in a timely manner all Information and Referral questions and/or emotional support requests that come through in-person events or office visits, email, phone, and social media connections.
  • Under supervision, coordinates program which includes developing program plans and documenting program activities in order to ensure quality service delivery and achievement of program outcomes. Oversee the moderation of The Arc of King Countys social media platforms such as Facebook groups and GoogleGroups
  • Make program activities accessible to different cultural communities in terms of disability, language, culture, location, and other cultural considerations through utilizing The Arc of King Countys diverse staff team, and/or interpreters (over the phone or in person).
  • Program activities include but are not limited to:
    • Deliver Parent to Parent program essentials, including hosting at least one Helping Parent training per year, one IEP Parent Partner training per year, making and supporting IEP Parent Partner and Helping Parent matches, and attending regular P2P WA meetings and activities.
    • Provide emotional and peer support to parents of children with IDD and special healthcare needs.
    • Support and maintain a strong working relationship with the active Helping Parent and IEP Parent Partner pool of volunteers.
    • Coordinating P2P program-related workshops/trainings, social events, and informal support groups
  • Attend and host resource fairs, presentations, and educational workshops where information about The Arc of King County and IDD resources are shared.
  • Critically evaluate program activities for effectiveness and regularly consult with supervisor.
  • Proactively participate in team, department and agency meetings to achieve program goals.
  • Maintains good relationships with community stakeholders including groups identified by supervisor.
  • Ensures program documentation and promotional materials are up to date. Including on-going timely, accurate Salesforce data entry.
  • Partner with the Advocacy Team to share educational resources and civic engagement opportunities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical and Other Requirements

  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination or an approved accommodation request is required prior to starting work.
  • Ability to work in an open office environment with or without accommodation.
  • Ability to use phone, email, and internet with ease.
  • Ability to travel anywhere in King County as needed (if driving, must have a WA drivers license and car insurance; if not driving, ability to be punctual when traveling anywhere in King County)
  • Work hours typically occur between 8:30-4:30 Monday-Friday with some flexibility.
  • Requires some evening and weekend work with advanced notice/planning.

Hours/Salary/Benefits

  • This is a full-time non-exempt position.
  • This position is eligible for The Arc of King Countys employee benefits package which includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(K), EAP, Orca card, paid holidays, paid personal leave, and more.
  • Hourly Wage 26.00/hour

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor-level degree preferred or equivalent work experience.

  • Per contract requirement the position must be filled by a parent or close family member of a person with a disability or special health care needs

Minimum qualifications

  • Direct experience interacting with and supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.
  • Ability to learn about IDD and community resources through experience, on-the-job training, and other professional development opportunities and to successfully relay that information to individuals with IDD and their families.
  • An ongoing commitment to learning, as policies, services and procedures change over time.
  • Ability to learn and implement State of Washington Mandatory Reporting requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals of diverse economic, ethnic, and social backgrounds.
  • Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and ability to work with a team.
  • Ability to be self-directed, and to work independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to set professional boundaries.
  • Ability to persevere in the face of obstacles.
  • Experience in using MS Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) and able to learn and use other required technology
  • Experience with Salesforce preferred.
