Job Description
Residential opportunities are available for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities through a variety of community options. Each option provides a supportive home-like environment in an integrated community setting. Without exception, each residence offers a fulfilling independent lifestyle in a nurturing atmosphere. The Arc of Essex County’s highly trained staff provide, ongoing activities, behavioral and medical support, and training in independent living skills. As part of their community residents are encouraged to establish friendships, pursue personal interests and achieve.
Additionally, The Arc of Essex County Day Services are provided in a variety of community based settings with wide ranging activities. Community Resource Center activities such as volunteering, community trips and skill building classes help consumers develop essential interpersonal skills. Vocational Centers encourage consumers to learn and enhance employment related skills, while Specialized Centers assist those with extra physical, medical or behavioral needs. All participants choose from an evolving menu of activities held either in the center or in the community.
We are currently seeking experienced Direct Support Professionals to join our dynamic and growing organization. We have a variety of positions within our Residential and Day programs, and can offer full-time or part-time shifts throughout Essex County. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Maintain a safe, healthy, pleasant, homelike environment for each individual.
Provides training, supports, transportation, and assistance for each individual to enable her/him to complete daily routines in a safe, healthy, productive and dignified manner. This usually includes toileting, bathing, dressing, laundry, recreation, etc.
Encourages independence by providing both the opportunity and the appropriate levels of skill training.
Assists in the planning of the Individual Habilitation Plan (IHP).
Administers medication, assists with medical appointments.
Maintains the overall operation of the home and vehicle(s)
Ensures accurate documentation of all messages, observations, significant events etc.
Qualifications:
A high school diploma or GED is required. Experience in a related field is preferred.
Must be proficient at written and verbal communication.
Valid NJ State Driver’s License required with minimum of 3 years driving history in the US and no infractions/suspensions within 3 years.
Ability to navigate and input data in a computer is required.
