What You’ll Do
The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) supports the Director of Nursing in overseeing daily operations, ensuring quality resident care, regulatory compliance, and providing leadership to the nursing team.

Monday to Friday, 8:00am - 4:00pm
Responsibilities
- Support to the DON
- Assist the DON in managing the overall operations of the nursing department, including staffing, budgeting, and compliance.
- Serve as acting DON in the absence of the Director of Nursing, ensuring continuity of leadership and care.
- Help develop and implement nursing policies, procedures, and standards in line with best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Provide input and assistance in strategic planning and quality improvement initiatives.
- Nursing Staff Supervision
- Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of nursing staff, including registered nurses (RNs), licensed practical nurses (LPNs), and certified nursing assistants (CNAs).
- Monitor staff performance and provide feedback, coaching, and training to ensure adherence to facility policies and high standards of care.
- Participate in the recruitment, hiring, and training of new nursing staff.
- Assist with staff scheduling, ensuring appropriate nurse-to-resident ratios and coverage.
- Resident Care
- Ensure that residents receive high-quality care that meets their physical, emotional, and social needs.
- Monitor resident health and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and update individualized care plans.
- Conduct rounds to assess the quality of care being provided and address any resident concerns or issues.
- Oversee resident admission, discharge, and transfer processes, ensuring all documentation is complete and accurate.
- Staff Development & Training
- Organize and coordinate ongoing education and training programs for nursing staff to keep them informed about new procedures, regulations, and best practices.
- Assist in the development of competency assessments and provide training to ensure nursing staff are skilled in their roles.
- Promote professional growth and development among nursing staff through mentorship and support.
- Compliance & Regulatory Oversight
- Ensure nursing staff adhere to all federal, state, and local healthcare regulations, including those related to infection control, patient safety, and resident rights.
- Assist in preparing for inspections and surveys by regulatory agencies, ensuring the nursing department is fully compliant.
- Monitor and maintain accurate resident records and documentation in accordance with regulatory standards and facility policies.
- Help develop and implement quality assurance and performance improvement programs to continually enhance the quality of care provided.
- Communication & Collaboration
- Serve as a liaison between nursing staff, residents, families, and other departments within the facility to ensure smooth communication and coordination of care.
- Work closely with the DON and other department heads to address operational issues and improve the overall care environment.
- Communicate with residents' families to provide updates on their loved ones’ health and address any concerns.
- Emergency & Risk Management
- Assist the DON in developing and implementing emergency preparedness plans for the nursing department.
- Respond to emergency situations and help coordinate nursing staff during crises or critical events.
- Monitor and report incidents, accidents, or concerns related to resident care or staff safety, and assist in implementing corrective actions.
- Performance Improvement
- Help identify areas for improvement within the nursing department and collaborate with the DON to develop and implement corrective actions.
- Participate in quality assurance programs and conduct audits to ensure continuous improvement in the delivery of care.

Compensation
Annual Salary Range: $114,036.00 - $129,000.00
Qualifications

Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from a four-year college or university, with a minimum of 3 years of healthcare experience and at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role. Two years of long-term care experience preferred.
Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations
- Current State of Hawaii R.N. license
- Current First Aid and CPR certification
Computer Skills
Proficiency in computer usage and relevant software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word) and electronic medical records software (Health MedEx Vision). Ability to quickly learn and adapt to other necessary software programs as needed.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; push and pull. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
