Arcadis is currently searching for a Senior HVAC Design Engineer with 15 years’ experience to join our Resilience Water Design team in our White Plains, NY office. Candidates that reside in the tri-state area are preferred.
This is an extraordinary opportunity for a self-motivated engineer to join a global leader and make an immediate impact, leading projects and mentoring junior staff. The Senior HVAC Design Engineer will be involved in a variety of HVAC design projects, with support from a strong nationally recognized technical staff, at one of the best-qualified consulting firms around the world. They will utilize their expertise and technical knowledge to not only lead projects, but to also manage clients and direct the development of design & construction projects, and participate on a variety of project pursuits within this market.
Role accountabilities:
As a Senior HVAC Design Engineer you will provide HVAC design and construction services for municipal and industrial water/wastewater facilities to a diverse client base in the Northeast and across the U.S. You will lead a team of junior engineers and designers/drafters on multiple projects simultaneously, and will utilize technical knowledge and experience to develop teams overall capabilities. You will also be held accountable as Project and/or Task Manager for the planning, design, and construction of mechanical systems for water/wastewater treatment facilities, meeting established budgets and delivery schedules for each assignments for project/task scope, schedule, and budget.
The Senior HVAC Design Engineer will work directly with clients to determine needs and provide solutions, and will coordinate execution of projects with other disciplines, and/or the Senior Project Manager or Program Manager. You will develop design projects from inception to completion, and prepare complete construction packages for the engineering and construction of mechanical systems for clients inclusive of performing heating and cooling load analysis, preparing packages for the procurement of equipment, and providing additional support for construction, commissioning, and start-up projects as needed.
You will create and manage cost estimates and project schedules, and will be responsible for completing design tasks within budget and on schedule. Maintaining Arcadis' standards and specifications for Mechanical Engineering on assigned projects will be imperative.
Qualifications & Experience:
We are looking for someone with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related field of study with a Professional Engineer (PE) license. You will need demonstrated strong technical and leadership experience leading a team of 3 or more, coordinating and managing task and/or project work as a Project or Senior Mechanical Engineer. We are also looking for someone with demonstrated client management and relationship building skills including preparation and development of proposals and presentations, participation in client interviews, and managing client expectations.
You will need experience approving project drawings, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates. AutoCAD and/or Revit knowledge with the ability to communicate design strategies to a drafting department in order to create construction documents will be needed. You must also have a broad understanding of HVAC systems, hot water heating systems, airside systems and their applications. HVAC load calculation software experience (such as Carrier HAP, and Trane Trace) will be important as well.

- Functional experience with MS Office applications.
- Functional experience with Bluebeam.
- Familiarity with state and local codes.
- Familiarity with code review process and response to Code official comment.
- 15 years’ specialized experience with HVAC design & construction specifically for municipal and/or industrial water/wastewater facilities.
- Plumbing & fire protection design knowledge.
- ASHRAE association or similar preferred.
- 3D CAD software experience.
- LEED GA or other knowledge a plus.
