This role will involve working with clients to provide comprehensive plans that incorporate all aspects of their projects. Job Description
This is a senior technical position within the Power Delivery unit of Arcadis. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and developing the High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) team. Key responsibilities include leading and/or performing HVDC planning/feasibility studies, interconnection studies, transient studies, and systems analysis investigations for clients in North America and globally.
The incumbent will also work closely with other Power Delivery departments, including Substation Engineering, Transmission Engineering, Protection & Control Engineering, and Renewables teams, as well as with other Arcadis divisions on related HVDC Electrical Engineer system studies and power sector master plans.
The incumbent shall be familiar and experienced with key North American Market Operators (i.e., MISO, PJM, NE-ISO, NY-ISO, ERCOT, SSP, AESO, IESO) policies, guidelines, regulations, rules, requirements, and criteria as applicable to grid interconnection, performance, and planning, especially related to bulk power systems.
Key Accountabilities
- Support clients by performing front-end engineering design activities, system studies, EMT & Phasor-domain modeling, developing technical specifications, reviewing design submissions, and supporting commissioning activities.
- Perform or coordinate power systems analysis activities including load-flow, short-circuit, transient stability, electromagnetic transient, small-signal stability analysis, reliability analysis, etc.
- Develop functional specifications for facility requirements related to different system development portfolios, for purposes of developing preliminary designs and obtaining estimates for the associated facilities.
- Lead/oversee the continuous development of enhanced HVDC system planning & studies processes, methodologies, and tools for quality and efficiencies.
- Provide guidance to project teams on both technical and project matters, with a significant client interface.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will require:
- A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in HVDC.
- Proficient with electromagnetic transient software, Mathcad, Matlab, Aspen/CAPE, PSSE software package, including all modules for load-flow, short-circuit, and transient stability analysis.
- Experience with alternative planning software applications, including PSCAD, TARA, PSLF, DigSILENT, or DSA Tools, is highly desirable.
- Expertise with advanced grid technologies (HVDC, BESS, and related IBR) and their specification, application, study, modeling, design, and operation.
- Familiarity with utility industry standards and practices, including NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI.
