POSITION SUMMARY

The APRN will provide advanced clinical care, focusing on the diagnosis, treatment, and management of rheumatic diseases. This role involves direct patient care, collaboration with physicians, and participation in research and education initiatives to improve patient outcomes. The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse performs these functions in a primary or specialty care setting in collaboration with a licensed physician(s) and under protocol as required by licensure with the ASBN. They will also ensure the highest quality of care being administered under their orders by the nursing staff.

Essential Functions Statement(s)


  • Demonstrates knowledge of etiologies, risk factors, patho-physiology, presentation and epidemiology of rheumatic and autoimmune conditions.
  • Performs history and physical assessments of patients that are accurate, complete, concise, relevant and appropriate for age, gender and clinical problem.
  • Orders appropriate diagnostic studies and correctly interprets the results.
  • Utilizes critical thinking to synthesize and analyze collected data.
  • Develops, implements, evaluates and alters the plan of care as needed.
  • Manages rheumatic and autoimmune conditions based on knowledge of the indications, contraindications, side effects, interactions and adverse reactions of pharmacologic agents and other relevant treatment modalities.
  • Counsels and educates patients and families.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in procedural skills pertinent to practice area, including intra-articular injections.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, concise and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Provides care that is patient-centered, compassionate, appropriate and effective for the promotion of health, prevention of illness and treatment of disease throughout the lifespan.
  • Includes patient in shared medical decision-making options
  • Facilitates consistent, coordinated care and clear communication among all members of the healthcare team.
  • Incorporates the patient in care planning and treatment across settings.
  • Serves as an advocate for patients and families in navigating the health care system.
  • Demonstrates insight into own strengths, limitations and knowledge deficits
  • Potential for additional procedures independently as outlined in the collaborative practice agreement/scope of practice while under the direction and supervision of the responsible physician
  • Supervision of Infusion Lab
  • Performs all job duties in compliance with ARcare safety and infection control policies.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Education: Master’s Degree Required.


Experience: At least six months of related experience is preferred.

Computer Skills: Basic computer skills and the ability to learn and use electronic medical record systems required.

Certificates & Licenses

Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing and a Master's Prepared Advanced Practitioner Program recognized by the Board of Nursing or from a program otherwise designated for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses which has been approved by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing. CPR/AED certification required upon employment or within first 3 months of employment; recertification must be maintained throughout employment.
