The SVP, Head of Underwriting Delivery is responsible for leading multiple underwriting domains’ product and initiative teams to deliver and maintain high-quality strategic applications. This highly experienced, knowledgeable and transformational technology leader will partner with Operations / Business Solutions leaders to understand the Arch Insurance North America’s strategic priorities and enable high performing technology teams to deliver on the desired business outcomes through strategic planning, resource allocation, risk management and communication with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. This leader will also support Agile Transformation and SAFe adoption through embodying best practices, coaching and training teams.
This is a hybrid position and can be based out of Raleigh, NC, Jersey City, NJ, or Hartford, CT. Raleigh or Jersey City are preferred. In-office expectation is 2 days per week (Tues & Thurs). Approximate travel is ~1 week per month.

RESPONSIBILITIES And ACCOUNTABILITIES
Agile Delivery / Agile Transformation
- Drive the execution and delivery of Agile Product teams and Solution teams by collaborating with many cross-functional teams, including product management, analytics, architects and developers to ensuring high-quality, efficient output.
- Ensure stable and predictable day to day IT operations.
- Capacity Planning.
- Pursuit of excellence; continuous improvement of delivery framework.
- Works closely with business partners / Operations leadership on a regular basis to ensure IT’s alignment with business needs and to plan for needs to support emerging requirements.
- Oversees relationships with key vendors, evaluating new providers as needed.
- Manage multiple teams of geographically diverse professionals to accomplish established goals
- Compose delivery teams across onsite employees, global captives and vendors for continuous balancing of capacity needed and operating expense.
- Embody lean-agile mindset and support innovation culture.
- Recruit and retain top level talent.
- Build empowered teams; coach and mentor to unlock talent.
- Adopts and implements Corporate IT technology and Security standards guidelines
- Leverages and partners with the Corporate Data Center and Infrastructure services to deliver business systems
- Responsible for preparing content for IT Steering Committee (“ITSC”) overseeing IT delivery effectiveness, adherence to budget; actively participate in ITSC.
- Partners with Corporate IT to deliver corporate platform systems to business users.
- Directs the maintenance of the IT infrastructure and prepares necessary plans and strategies which evolve the infrastructure in a way that is consistent with Arch’s business strategy.
- Ability to deal with major outages and incidents and lead a complex issue to resolution to restore business service rapidly.
- Operates an IT with good security & compliance score which provides information to auditors regarding security, controls, oversight and documentation of processes and procedures.
- Understand North Star architecture and champion with Product teams; partner closely with Chief Architect.
- Keeps abreast of relevant technologies seeking opportunities to improve effectiveness & efficiencies in the Arch platform that delivers optimal customer value and increase service levels.
- Maintains good awareness of broad technology trends that impact the Property & Casualty Insurance Industry.
- Prefer substantial breadth of knowledge of the information technology/systems field across the P&C Insurance value chain from Intake, Underwriting, Policy / Billing / Claims Management, Financial and reporting capabilities; other Financial Services experience will be considered.
- Transformational technology leadership experience, including responsibility for business delivery results in a fast-paced, multi-product environment.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and lead high-performing teams.
- High degree of emotional maturity and acumen.
- Ability to manage through ambiguity and create clarity across all constituents.
- Deep experience with Agile methodologies, SAFe and DevOps.
- Strong understanding of modern methods of ITSM and SDLC.
- Refined relationship development & leadership skills with a proven track record of success in building credibility and collaborating across all levels of an organization.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multi-million dollar IT platform.
- Good negotiation skills to effectively reach agreement with vendors and internal counterparts.
- Experience in software development, solution architecture, and/or transformation programs in Financial Services or Insurance.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, technology or related field.
- Minimum 15 years’ experience in technology (development/architecture).
- Minimum 5 years’ experience managing and leading agile development teams.
- Normal office environment. Two days a week in one of the main Arch offices – Raleigh, Jersey City, Hartford.
- Travel required approximately 30% of the time.
- Incumbent may be asked to perform other duties as required.
For Hartford, CT: $210,000 - $283,500/year
For Jersey City, NJ: $233,500 - $315,000/year
- Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs. The above pay range may be modified in the future.
