- Compares and verifies identifying information and counts or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments against bills of lading, pack lists, orders, or other records.
- Determines the most efficient and cost-effective shipping method.
- Accurately affixes shipping labels and other shipping information to cartons and containers.
- Assembles or selects appropriate containers for shipment and inserts items, ensuring proper packaging to prevent damage during transit.
- Unpacks, inspects, and examines incoming shipments for damage or shortages, records findings, and communicates with shippers to resolve discrepancies.
- Routes received items to appropriate departments or storage locations.
- Inspect outgoing shipments to confirm they meet customer and vendor specifications.
- Maintains an organized inventory of shipping materials and supplies, and proactively requests replenishment as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Attention to Detail: Demonstrates a high level of accuracy and thoroughness in all tasks.
- Paperwork Proficiency: Strong ability to read, understand, and interpret shipping documents, orders, and other related paperwork.
- Organization and Time Management: Effectively prioritizes tasks and manages time to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Communication Skills: Communicates clearly and professionally with vendors, shippers, and internal team members, both verbally and in writing.
- Problem Solving: Demonstrates the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies or issues that may arise during the shipping and receiving process.
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- 6 months to 1 year of related experience in shipping and receiving or equivalent training.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with FedEx/UPS shipping software.
- Ability to perform basic math functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, percentages).
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
- Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, and reach with hands and arms.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds frequently. Occasionally lift/move 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The candidate must be able to pass a standard eye exam.
- The work environment may include occasional exposure to outside-weather conditions.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
