What are the responsibilities and job description for the Security Officer position at Archangel Protective Services LLC?
**** Must possess a current, valid Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Registration as an Unarmed Guard at minimum. Verification of the DCJS registration number will be requested upon contact for interview.
Location: Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia
- Pay starts at $16.00 per hour/ pay dates 1st and 16th
- There are no health benefits with this position.
- Probationary Period: 6 months. Potential of a pay increase upon satisfactory completion demonstrating commitment and proficiency of the duties.
- Work days: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
- Hours: 9:30am to 5:15pm (7.75hrs)
- 30- minute break period on site
- Attire: Black suit, a white and a black dress shirt, gray or dark colored tie, black shoes (Provided by employee).
Job Duties:
Continually patrols the museum (internal and external), protecting the building and its contents from potential losses, theft or vandalism. As warranted, inspects outgoing traffic to prevent unauthorized removal of Museum property.
Prevents loss of property; Informs and/or warns violators of rule infractions, such as bringing unauthorized items into the museum, touching artwork, unauthorized photography, and violating any other museum rules.
Monitors the surveillance system; uses it as supplement not primary observation.
Addresses safety concerns, disruptive individuals on or around premises
Inspects premises for such irregularities as signs of intrusion, interruption of utility service, etc. Watches for and reports irregularities, such as fire hazards, leaking pipes, unsecured windows and doors; assists in safety checks of fire extinguishing equipment.
Directs and informs visitors, interacts well with others as it is a consumer-service-oriented position.
Directs traffic and wayfinding for visitors, helps lost children, and provides crowd control and security for all major museum events.
Handles emergencies and reports any hazardous conditions or irregularities to the appropriate personnel.
Sounds alarms or calls appropriate emergency response personnel, as needed. Cooperates with police, fire and other authorities in problems affecting the Museum.
Has excellent public relations skills as interaction with visitors, museum staff, and others is necessary.
Needs to be physically fit with strong reflexes and able to climb, stoop, crawl, stretch and stand for hours on end. Have excellent hearing, vision, and sense of smell in order to be acutely aware of the surrounding environment. Needs to lift, carry and operate a 50-pound fire extinguisher.
Needs to be proficient in using a 2-way radio and have a valid Driver's License.
Prepares and maintains records of daily activities, property damage, unusual occurrences, incidents/injuries on site involving guests, and makes same available to museum staff or others as needed.
Assists museum staff with occasional moving/lifting of furniture/objects.
Available to work extended days until 7pm when necessary (2 week advance notice is provided).
