Archbishop Moeller High School, an all-male, Catholic high school (grades 9-12) located in Cincinnati, OH, seeks a collaborative and passionate educator to serve as the Band Director/Director of Instrumental Music. This position is in partnership with Mount Notre Dame High School, an all-female, Catholic high school (grades 9-12).
Job Overview
The Moeller/Mount Notre Dame Band Program has experienced impressive growth in number and ability in the last few years. An official partnership between the schools has resulted in a more balanced ensemble and a stronger community experience for the members.
The award-winning concert band focuses on Grade 4-5 literature for October, December, March and May performances. A crowd-pleasing marching band performs at football games, school pep rallies, festivals, and a few competitions. A robust Winter Guard and energetic Basketball Band round out the program.
This full-time, 12-month position (beginning June 1) reports to the Principals at each school and works closely with the Music/Performing Arts Department Chairs.
Essential Responsibilities
Curriculum Initiatives and Programming
- Develop an overall instrumental music curriculum that meets each learner at their current level and leads them to a proficiency level suitable for high school musicians.
- Teach 3-4 band classes at Moeller and/or 1 band class at Mount Notre Dame (maximum teaching load of 4 classes).
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the various ensembles in the program with support from the Band Administrative Assistant.
- Oversee support staff, private lesson instructors and guest educators who assist in implementing the curriculum for musicians and guard members.
Community Outreach
- Work closely with a motivated core of families to generate volunteers, raise supplemental funds, and create opportunities for travel, performance, and fun.
- Effectively market instrumental music programs and summer opportunities to grade school band programs and the general community.
- Identify strategic public performance opportunities outside of athletics and school concerts to provide music in our communities.
Collaboration with Faculty and Staff
- Collaborate with Moeller and Mount Notre Dame faculty and staff in all academic disciplines to assure that our programs achieve their maximum educational potential.
- Work closely with athletic directors, theatre directors, and coaches to share facilities and support students with interests in multiple activities.
- Coordinate efforts with counselors and admissions staff to attract incoming students and retain current students.
Qualifications
- Candidates will possess at least a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education. Candidates should possess knowledge of and experience with current best-practice in concert, marching, and jazz education.
- Candidates will have experience in instrumental music teaching and curriculum development and possess a comprehensive understanding of best practices for educating students of all ability levels.
Compensation, Benefits and Hiring
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. The position is full-time; contract is effective June 1 with orientation and onboarding in August.
