Pharmacy Technician Specialist - Disease Management
Responsibilities:
Performs advanced pharmacy functions in support of delivering high quality and financially judicious pharmaceutical care
Engages directly with patients and caregivers to support the delivery of benefits, the optimization of pharmaceutical care, the identification of any barriers to care, and the resolution of modifiable barriers
Supports pharmacy services in the delivery of prescription benefits, formulary management, and financial programs for medication therapy
Maintains competence required for current job title/position
Assumes responsibility for own professional education and development and assists in providing education to patients, students, technicians, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals
Pharmacy technicians assist pharmacists in preparing and distributing medication, maintaining drug inventory, and maintaining patient records
Pharmacy technicians work only under the supervision of a registered pharmacist
They do not perform duties that can legally be performed only by a registered pharmacist
Pharmacy technicians must have the ability to perform work accurately with attention to detail within specified time periods; work cooperatively with health-system and pharmacy staff; handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule; set priorities and solve problems; respond quickly to emergency requests; communicate effectively (orally and in writing), and assist in meeting the pharmaceutical care needs of the patient populations served by the organization.
Complies to the standards of pharmacy operation
Demonstrates competence on a consistent basis in regards to medication dispensing
Performs duties in an independent manner and demonstrates desire to learn new tasks
Procures and distributes medications per physician request, pharmacist request, or prearranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures, and protocols
Maintains accurate and adequate medication and supply inventory according to established policies and procedures
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
Active registration as a Pharmacy Technician in the State of Georgia required
Active certification with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board required
Dual certification or other advanced training and education preferred
Pharmacy experience in a hospital or retail setting required
