Chicago Catholic Schools provides a top tier, spiritually and emotionally uplifting educational environment, surrounded and driven by faith. We foster and support a diverse community of learners. In fact, a quarter of our student body doesn’t identify as Catholic. The parents of these students value the academic excellence of a Catholic school education and the respect shown in our schools for beliefs, values and a higher sense of purpose.

We are blessed to have over 5,000 dedicated employees working in our schools. The Office of Catholic Schools provides support to our school leaders, teachers and enrollment marketing professionals. We prioritize developing positive character traits such as empathy and generosity.

The Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic schools serve more than 40,000 students in 150 elementary and high schools in Cook and Lake counties. It is one of the largest private school systems in the United States. Its schools have received 96 Blue Ribbon awards from the U.S. Department of Education over the past 10 years.

We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and skilled Elementary and Middle School Counselor to join our educational team. This role is essential in providing support
to students, fostering their emotional, social, and academic growth, and promoting a positive school environment. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with children and a strong understanding of developmental milestones at both the elementary and middle school levels. This is a part time position with option of working at another school to make a full-time position.

Responsibilities listed are not limited to other duties assigned:

  • The school guidance counselor will assist students in our PreK-8 school setting as an advocate for the development of the whole child.
  • Provide individual and group counseling services to students to address a wide range of issues including emotional, social, and academic challenges.
Support students in navigating conflicts, managing stress, building self-esteem, and improving interpersonal skills.
  • Collaborate with teachers and parents to identify students who need additional academic support. Assist with goal setting, study skills, and time
management strategies to improve students' academic performance and success.
  • Be a primary resource in managing and addressing student crises, including emotional distress, behavioral concerns, or bullying situations. Ensure
appropriate interventions and referrals to external professionals as needed.
  • Develop and implement programs or workshops that promote social-emotional learning, conflict resolution, resilience, and positive behavior.
Work with students to build skills such as empathy, teamwork, and emotional regulation.
  • Serve as a liaison between students, parents, and teachers. Meet with parents to discuss concerns about their child’s well-being and
academic progress. Provide teachers with strategies and insights to support the students’ emotional and academic development.
  • Develop and maintain individualized counseling plans for students, assessing needs and progress regularly. Monitor students' emotional and
behavioral growth and adapt interventions accordingly.
  • Identify students in need of external support and make appropriate referrals to community resources, mental health professionals, and
    special education services when necessary.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding student information, while ensuring that appropriate professionals are involved when needed for the well-being of the student.
  • Contribute to school-wide initiatives aimed at creating a supportive, inclusive, and respectful environment. Participate in school events, staff
    meetings, and professional development.
