Description
ENTITY: Mt. Olivet Cemetery was consecrated in 1892 and is located on the western side of the Denver Metro area in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. It is the largest cemetery in Colorado containing 392 acres. St. Simeon Cemetery was consecrated in 2004 and is located on the eastern side of the Denver Metro area in Aurora, Colorado. The Mortuary has two locations. The first is located on the grounds of Mt. Olivet Cemetery and was opened in 1981. The second was the recent acquisition of Caldwell-Kirk Mortuary. These entities serve the Catholic Community of the Denver metro area and its various parishes, missions, and apostolates and other members of the general public regardless of their religious affiliation.
THE POSITION: This position reports to the Operations Manager and will have the responsibility for repairing and maintaining all vehicles and equipment for all locations. This includes performing and documenting all phases of vehicle maintenance, repair, and diagnostics. This position will work in close collaboration with the leadership team including Superintendents and Managers. The position must serve as a symbol of the extended community of the Church, a community of unbroken by death, and by the sacrament of the Eucharist, celebrate the death and resurrection of the Lord which offers to us the promise of eternal life. The duties must be performed consistent with company mission and values and adherence to company policies and procedures and in doing so upholds the Catholic social teachings of the Catholic Church (the Church).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Diagnoses, repairs and overhauls engines, transmissions, components, electrical and fuel systems, etc. for various powered equipment such as vehicles, lawnmowers, trimmers, heavy equipment and other small engines;

Maintains vehicle functional condition by listening to operator complaints, conducting inspections, repairing engine failures, repairing mechanical and electrical systems malfunctions, replacing parts and components;

Performs tune ups, brake jobs and other preventative maintenance on cars, trucks, lawn mowers, and other powered equipment; replaces common parts and adjusts;

Designs, welds, and fabricates steel, aluminum, and stainless-steel fabricated projects using MIG (metal inert gas), TIG, STICK and gas;

Minor body work as needed;

Responds to routine and emergency calls for repairs and service;

Complies with state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards;

Maintain accurate, updated records of preventive maintenance;

Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs;

Contains costs by using warranty; evaluating service and parts options;

Keeps supplies ready by inventory stock, placing orders and verifying receipts;

Accomplishes maintenance and organization mission by completing related results as needed;

Keep work area clean and safe;
-
Travel to other locations or offsite for any vehicle/equipment evaluation/repairs as needed;

Promote and maintain a safe and healthy work environment by complying with the provisions of the Cemeteries;

Perform basic security function by observing traffic flow into and out of grounds, guarding against vandalism when possible;

Ability to recognize sensitive information and adhere to strict confidentiality;
-
Establish and manage third party business relationships with outside vendors and suppliers;
-
Ability to transport vehicles to and from outside vendor locations as needed;

Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma or equivalent;
-
Certification from a vocational school or trade school is preferred;
-
A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role;

In-depth knowledge of vehicle diagnostic equipment and mechanical systems;

Strong attention to detail with an aptitude for problem solving;

Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature that may be obtained with a two-year associate degree, diploma or from a college, technical, and business, vocational or correspondence school. Under certain conditions, experience in the industry or related business environment may be a substitute for education requirements. Associated degree preferred;

Preferred 5 years of experience using and maintaining equipment, including vehicles, mowers, trimmers, blowers, backhoes, boom truck, etc.;

Valid state-issued driver’s license in good standing and acceptable driving record;
-
Demonstrated ability to manage projects related to mechanical and equipment repair and maintenance;
-
Ability to show respect and sensitivity toward client families while working in a physically demanding environment;
-
Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers;
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The job constantly requires lifting, carry, push, or pull objects weighing more than 50 lbs. (without the assistance of mobile, powered equipment);
-
Physical effort requiring manual dexterity is constantly required (i.e., more than 75% of time on the job);
-
Physical workplace and/or exertion require somewhat rapid movement and/or effort and bring on a moderate amount of physical fatigue;
-
The job is sometimes physical in nature and the following factors may therefore apply:

Working outdoors in hot and cold temperatures and in other weather conditions;
-
Moderate odors, dust, odor, pollen, or fumes may cause discomfort and/or irritation to eyes or respiratory passages;
-
Loud noise from equipment/machine is at a level where ear protection is sometimes required;
-
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) use is required for some job duties.
