What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Music Ministry position at Archdiocese of Detroit?
Since 1964 St. Perpetua's parish has ministered and proclaimed the Gospel to the people of Waterford and beyond. We are seeking a faithful, passionate, and qualified individual to be our full time Director of Music Ministry.
REPORTS TO: Fr. Paul Graney, Pastor
Principal Function:
The Director of Music Ministry is a Catholic disciple of Jesus Christ who provides sacred music that will enhance our liturgies, enabling parishioners to lift their hearts to the Lord in song, and provide an excellent Sunday experience.
The Director of Music Ministry is expected to sing, play organ, play piano, and conduct an adult choir.
The Director of Music Ministry is to build and sustain congregational singing at parish liturgies
Liturgical Duties and Responsibilities:
The Director of Music Ministry will be responsible for all music associated with worship, religious education, Christian service, evangelization in the parish, etc.
Responsible for the weekend liturgies - Saturdays at 4:00 PM and Sundays at 9:30 AM & 11:30 AM.
Responsible for special celebrations which include but not limited to: Christmas, Ash Wednesday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Vigil, Easter Sunday, Holy Days of Obligation, Penance Services in Advent and Lent, Confirmation in the spring, and First Holy Communion in the spring, and various liturgical and seasonal events.
St. Perpetua's Parish does not "charge" a fee for funeral masses and weddings. The Director of Music Ministry may accept gratuities from families and couples for preparing and performing music for such occasions.
Unlock and lock all doors of church as needed for Masses and choir rehearsals.
Practice and Preparation Duties and Responsibilities:
Research, select, and prepare music for liturgies and for the choir.
Choir rehearsal is once per week for about 2 hours.
Ensure all copyright licensing and usage reporting to music publishers is strictly adhered to.
Responsible for recruiting and maintaining a bank of substitute musicians that can play the Roman Catholic liturgy. This is to be done for when time off is taken. The Director of Music is to schedule those musicians and submit check requests for renumeration.
Responsible for overseeing the maintenance of musical instruments and audio equipment.
Serves as a resource consultant for parish concerns regarding music, helping to educate staff, and congregation in developing their potential to understand the role of music in worship and to celebrate liturgies of musical quality.
Is visibly present at principal parish events, keeping attuned to the living faith and real concerns of parishioners.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Music (Preferred)
Competency in singing, playing organ, playing piano, and conducting an adult choir.
Competency in Sacred Music, Sacred Liturgy, and Catholic Theology.
Competency with audio equipment and maintaining musical instruments.
Protecting God's Children Class as required by the Archdiocese of Detroit.
