The Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas is the Catholic Church in Northeast Kansas: Growing as Disciples of Jesus; Making Disciples for Jesus. The Pro-Life Office is seeking to hire a part-time Coordinator, Foster and Pro-Life Ministry. The Coordinator, Foster and Pro-Life Ministry is responsible for offering guidance to parishes to establish and grow parish-based foster care and adoption support ministries for families with children in care and those adopting children. This position will average 20 hours per week, and requires the ability to work evenings and weekends as needed. This position is hybrid with work completed in the Chancery office and remotely.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Regular visit with priests, deacons, parish staff/volunteers and related ministries of the Archdiocese to provide support for foster and adoptive families; establishes regular communications (newsletters and/or meetings) and training for Parish Foster/Adopt Ministry Liaisons.
- Proposes and coordinates the creation of promotional materials/items to support the Foster Ministry.
- Works with an Advisory Board from a diverse core of community leaders for the continued development and support of the Foster/Adopt Ministry.
- Facilitates annual retreat days and monthly/quarterly parish Respite events for foster/adoptive families.
- Supports the manager of the Missionary Disciples for Life Temporary Pilot program with administrative support and resource development.
- Provides general support to Lead Pro Life Consultant.
- Updates website(s) and social media as needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, problem solving, time management and organizational skills.
- Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Maintain confidentiality with sensitive matters.
- Develop and maintain good working relationships with churches, pastors, pro-life groups and local crisis pregnancy centers.
Qualifications:
- Minimum two (2) years of personal or professional experience with foster care, adoption, social work, counseling, event coordination, website and social media, similar administrative support and pregnancy support preferred.
- Must have a firm understanding of the Catholic Church’s teachings on the sanctity and dignity of human life.
- Intermediate skills Microsoft Office suite of products, web and social media management, and the ability to learn new technologies as needed.
- Practicing Catholic, registered in a Catholic parish or faith community and must embrace in word and deed the Church’s teachings on faith and morals as articulated by the Church’s magisterium.
