General Description
The Preschool and Kindergarten Director shall assist the administration in carrying out the mission and objective of the school in all areas. The director shall provide leadership, support and supervision to the educational staff and programs of the school. Educational Qualifications
The Director will possess a bachelor’s degree in Child Development of Early Childhood Education or closely related field and possess or be qualified for the Site Supervisor level of the Child Development Permit.
Other Qualifications
- Have a minimum of 4 years teaching or directing experience in a preschool or kindergarten setting within the past seven years
- Possess organizational qualities to lead, guide and motivate others
- Possess interpersonal qualities to promote harmonious relationships among staff.
- Obtain and/or maintain valid CPR and First Aid certification
- Submit Physicians Report and negative TB clearance prior to employment
- Be or become trained in the Archdiocesan program, VIRTUS
- Be at least 18 years of age and a high school graduate or equivalent
Responsibilities
- The director/principal will administer, plan, organize and supervise the day-to-day operations of the Preschool and Kindergarten Program. These duties may include,
but are not limited to:
- Being accountable for licensing compliance and kindergarten standards including maintenance of adequate records for every child and staff member including all forms required for DSS, Title 22, and Title 5
- Maintaining NAEYC accreditation standards
- Creating a liaison between parents and the program
- Supervising staffing issues – hiring, evaluating staff and staff development
- Developing and implementing a viable business plan based on program philosophy that includes diversity, inclusive practice and non-discrimination
- Authoring the program mission, philosophy and goals, as well as policies and procedures
- Developing, implementing, and reconciling the annual budget for the preschool and kindergarten program
- Analyzing the needs of children; recommend and supervise the implementation of developmentally appropriate, culturally sensitive, and individually responsive practices
- Demonstrating leadership in supporting and promoting early intervention, family centered services and inclusive classroom practices
- Analyzing, recommending and supervising the incorporation of emerging curriculum models consistent with NAEYC guidelines
- Supervising the assessment of the child’s relationship to and progress in the program and communicate the results with parents, staff, faculty, as appropriate
- Analyzing parent concerns and educate parents on developmentally appropriate practices and the Preschool and Kindergarten policies through periodic parent meetings and individual parent conferences
- Planning and implementing fund raising events as required
- Other duties as assigned
