St. Lucy School is a special education school that serves students with visual impairments in grades K - 8 who participate in an academic setting. St. Lucy School strives to develop the whole child-spiritually, academically, emotionally, and physically. The school exists to nurture children, continue the instruction of our Catholic faith, promote independence and become contributing members of society.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in special education or related education field.
- Pennsylvania Certification in Special Education, K – 12.
- Administrative leadership experience and certification preferred.
- Experience with low vision and blind population preferred.
- Classroom experience as a special education teacher.
- Strong motivational skills, instructional leadership, time management, collaborative, organizational, oral and written communication skills, decision making, and conflict prevention and resolution skills.
- Strong knowledge and experience with special education instructional models and best practices.
- Familiarity with low vision and blind devices preferred.
- Knowledge of educational approaches utilized by teachers and students with CVI.
- Comprehensive understanding of IDEA, Section 504 and ADA regulations; Child Find and Equitable Participation protocols; and identification and service of students with visual impairments.
- Ability to monitor student progress and promote student achievement
- Ability to promote a positive environment, which fosters high expectations for students, faculty, and staff
- Ability to engage all members of the community – faculty, children, families and benefactors.
- High degree of flexibility.
- Technologically proficient.
- Must be a practicing Catholic as verified by the pastor of the parish in which the applicant is registered.
- US Work Authorization is required.
Responsibilities
- Review staffing, program needs, materials and technology at the school.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff concerning all facets of programming for students, from pre-referral intervention to transition and graduation.
- Work in partnership with the President of Schools Of Special Education in all aspects of growing and strengthening the school.
- Communicate and collaborate with adjoining elementary school for inclusion in classrooms and activities.
- Work with teachers to interpret the results of psychoeducational evaluations, IEPs and Section 504 plans; support implementation of specially designed instruction; and monitor student progress.
- Collaborate with teachers to determine functional and academic implications of eye reports and implement environmental and academic adaptations accordingly.
- Collaborate in developing student IEPs and assist in the facilitation of IEP meetings as needed.
- Manage compliance with special education requirements and timelines.
- Engage and support parents in the school community.
- Attend meetings with principals of special education schools and the President of Schools of Special Education.
- Consult with county Intermediate Units regarding Title and Act 89 Services and Equitable Participation in delivery of student services under IDEA, Section 504, and ADA.
- Remain current on information/research regarding best practices, special education law, programs, and student resources.
- Coordinate and supervise student transportation with various school districts.
- Direct the hiring, supervision, and evaluation of the teaching faculty.
- Plan, implement and evaluate professional development for teachers of students with visual impairments.
- Help to coordinate and participate in school advancement activities and events.
- Collaborate with President of SSE and Educational Financial Services in creating and monitoring of the school budget.
- Support families of potential students through the inquiry and admission process.
