Position Summary:
Perform laboratory analysis on in-process and finished product samples to determine conformance to the specifications of quality and purity.
This position reports to the QC/QFS Manager.

Essential Job Functions (including but not limited to):
- Trouble shoot and perform maintenance, calibrations and validations on laboratory equipment such as HPLC, GC, IC, Karl Fisher and Titrators.
- Assist in method development for new testing and method improvements.
- Participate in the training and development of laboratory technicians.
- Write and update laboratory procedures.
- Track and maintain laboratory inventory.
- Support all plant and company safety, environmental, and quality initiatives.

- Ensure that all applicable analytical tests on in-process and finished products are being performed accurately and efficiently
- Assist in investigations into the determination of root cause for Quality related deviations/rejections and nonconformities
- Provide assistance and act as back-up to the facility QFS Manager in ensuring the processes and systems are adequate to implement, achieve, and maintain 3rd party food safety certifications (i.e. SQF, GMP , etc) and FDA compliance (21 CFR 507 and 21 CFR 117).
- Provide leadership, support, and guidance to ensure that Food Safety/Quality requirements are met.

- Previous experience with running and maintaining lab instrumentation such as HPLC, GC, IC, Karl Fisher, Titrators and other basic laboratory equipment is preferred.
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry or similar discipline is preferred.
- Previous experience working in a food safety or FDA regulated environment is preferred.
- Candidate must be detail oriented with strong documentation and communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time while performing job duties.
- Must be capable of working from heights, bending, kneeling, climbing stairs, and able to lift 50 lbs. repeatedly
- Walk to all levels and areas of the process plant and work through seasonal temperature changes
- Must be available for phone technical support 24/7 and come in for emergency maintenance issues as needed.

- The scope of the position may require exposure to and use of chemicals, solvents, and cleaners common to laboratory work that may be hazardous and/or cause injury if specific instructions regarding their mixture, use, and disposal/storage are not properly followed.
- Inside areas:
- Spring/Summer: Temperatures in some areas of the facility may exceed 100 degrees
- Fall/Winter: Temperatures in the facility may be at or below freezing
- Outside areas:
- Spring/Summer: Outside temperature may exceed 100 degrees with potential for high humidity. Potential inclement weather conditions including, but not limited to rain and wind
- Fall/Winter: Outside temperatures may reach freezing or below. Potential inclement weather including, freezing rain, sleet, snow and wind
- Some manufacturing processes within the facility have noise levels that may reach or exceed 85 decibels and require use of hearing protection for most of the work shift
- Able to traverse up to two (2) miles during the course of a work day
- Able to move about or to a work site by stooping, bending, kneeling or squatting frequently during the course of a work day. May require periods of prolonged sitting or standing
- Requires a full range of physical motion in order to operate manual and electrically powered tools and electrical test equipment, to move throughout the facility, including climbing stairs in all buildings
