We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Structural Engineering Department Manager to lead our team of skilled engineers.
The ideal candidate will possess a Structural Engineer (SE) license or a Professional Engineer (PE) license with structural focus, a Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering, and a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience. A licensed engineer with a degree in Architecture having a structural emphasis will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Management:
- Provide strategic direction and leadership to the structural engineering department.
- Oversee the recruitment, training, professional development, and continuing education of engineering staff.
- Conduct performance appraisals of team members, providing constructive feedback and setting goals for improvement.
- Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment.
- The candidate is not expected to manage projects but may be asked to step-in to help on projects as required.
- Manage and supervise structural engineering assignments from conception to completion.
- Ensure work packages are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
- Coordinate with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure project success.
- Work closely with project managers and other engineering disciplines (piping, electrical, process, mechanical) to integrate structural engineering requirements.
- Provide accurate cost and schedule estimates for structural engineering work.
- Provide technical guidance and support to the engineering team.
- Review and approve engineering designs, calculations, and reports.
- Perform your own designs and calculations as needed. The expectation is that the candidate remain 70% billable to projects.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and regulations.
- Demonstrate expertise in building design and working with heavy industrial process equipment.
- Willingness to travel and conduct on-site inspections and assessments.
- Collaborate with field personnel to address and resolve any on-site issues.
- Develop, implement, and maintain structural engineering standards and best practices.
- Ensure that all engineering work adheres to established standards and regulatory requirements.
- Continuously improve and update standards to reflect advancements in technology and industry practices.
- Establish and maintain quality control processes and procedures.
- Conduct regular engineering calculation and design methods reviews and audits to ensure adherence to quality standards.
- Address and resolve any technical or quality issues promptly.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering; a degree in Architecture having a structural emphasis will also be considered
- Structural engineering (SE) or Professional Engineer (PE – Structural emphasis) license is required; if candidate is not an Illinois SE, ability to obtain it via endorsement within 1 year of hire required
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in structural engineering
- Proven track record of successfully managing and delivering complex project deliverables
- Strong technical knowledge of structural engineering principles, practices, and codes
- Expertise in building design
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
- Proficiency in engineering software and tools
- Master's degree preferred
- 2 years of team leadership experience
- Expertise in heavy industrial process equipment
