WHAT IS THE POSITION?
The Electronic Monitoring Technical Coordinator role is a blend of on-board vessel fieldwork, inventory and asset management, as well as some data review and reporting. The position will need to communicate effectively with fishing industry members, fishery agency staff, fishing industry support groups, and other members of the technical field services team. Responsibilities include installing and servicing CCTV cameras and computer components onboard commercial fishing vessels across Alaska, along with data review and coordination of project related tasks. A strong understanding of commercial fishing practices and Alaska’s groundfish fishing industry is a very strong asset.
This full-time position would ideally be suited for someone based out of Anchorage, but other locations within Alaska will also be considered as a “home base” for this position. The position does require extensive travel throughout Alaska for installations and service work during prescribed periods as needed.
WHAT ARE THE SPECIFIC DUTIES?
- Install, remove, and service electronic monitoring (EM) camera systems and computer components on commercial fishing vessels throughout Alaska.
- Retrieve and archive data drives from vessels.
- Review and enter electronic monitoring fishing data using custom software applications.
- Manage, order, and track quantities of electronic components and camera system inventory items.
- Provide remote (phone and computer) troubleshooting for electronic equipment and CCTV cameras onboard vessels (land-based only).
- Respond to inquiries from fishing vessel crew reporting equipment issues or malfunctions.
- Participate in scheduled calls and meetings with NOAA/NMFS staff, Archipelago Program Managers, and project partners.
- Provide detailed reports of work completed and associated expenses.

WHAT DO YOU OFFER?
- Mechanical aptitude and experience with hand tools.
- Knowledge of commercial fishing operations and gear types.
- Prior observer experience preferred but not required.
- Physically fit is a must, and able to climb ladders and work at heights up to 40 feet.
- Experience with computer hardware and software is essential.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated problem-solving ability.
- A valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
- A reliable smartphone (monthly communications stipend provided).
- Legal authorization to work in the US.
