What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estimator position at Architectural Design?
Job Purpose:
The job of an Estimator is to prepare accurate estimates for projects by gathering information and analyzing important metrics. You will provide knowledge of cost and benefits that support profitable business decisions
Key Responsibilities- Solicit and analyze subcontractor and vendor pricing when needed.
- Track / monitor upcoming bids with the estimating team.
- Review of front-end documents, specifications, drawings, addendums, and RFI responses to determine the complete scope of work and required bid submittal documents.
- Meet with the sales team to review project scope and provide any required RFI’s.
- Develop sign counts as needed based on regulatory / code requirements.
- Build costing through material take-offs, vendor pricing, and subcontractor quotes.
- Work with internal manufacturing and installation departments to ensure price development accuracy.
- Prepare complete, accurate, and detailed estimates meeting bid date and time deadlines.
- Perform accurate, thorough, and timely takeoffs.
- Properly notate any needed inclusions, exclusions, and / or qualifications.
- Review estimates for completion and technical accuracy ensuring quality and integrity.
- Review bid / quote details with internal salespeople and / or GC’s estimators.
- Maintain client confidence by keeping information confidential.
- Communication with clients and vendors.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
- Thorough understanding of construction plans, specifications, and front-end documents.
- Organizing, planning, and customer service orientation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proper English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem solving.
- Positive attitude, persistence, and a high level of integrity.
- Ability to thrive in a self-driven, yet team orientated environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Flexible and possess cultural awareness.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent of 3 years of relevant work experience in estimating (required)
- 3 years estimating for a construction related trade, Cabinet / Millwork, Ornamental Metal, or Sign trades preferred.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license (minimum Class C), have and maintain a satisfactory driving record, and the ability to maintain auto insurance coverage.
