Description
The Estimator is responsible for generating and estimating an adequate number of profitable project opportunities such that ELRO ("the company") may meet its revenue and gross profit goals. The Estimator is responsible for following up on submitted bids and selling an adequate number of profitable jobs at margins that will allow the company to meet its revenue and gross profit goals.
1. Sales and Estimating
1.1. Analyze construction and fabrication drawings and specifications to develop comprehensive cost estimates for metal fabrication projects
1.2. Serve as the primary technical interface with customers, managing expectations and providing expert guidance on fabrication requirements
1.3. Calculate material yields, labor hours, and production costs for sheet metal, cladding, and weldment projects
1.4. Evaluate manufacturing methods to determine the most cost-effective fabrication approaches
1.5. Maintain current knowledge of material prices, availability, and market trends
1.6. Review and validate material and labor costs to ensure estimate accuracy
1.7. Negotiate with customers on project specifications and costs
2. Financial and General Management
2.1. Attend group estimating meetings to identify opportunities, weekly.
2.2. Reviews periodic updates of employee and equipment billing rates and burden percentages
- 2.3. Updates the estimating database with actual production units and labor costs;
2.4. Attends estimating meetings, identifies areas where the job financial performance deviates from the profit plan, and identifies areas that need adjustment in the estimating system to accurately reflect job conditions.
3. General
3.1. Maintains a high level of expertise with the company's project management system.
3.2. Maintains professional, cooperative relationships with subcontractors, engineers, architects and clients.
3.3. Complies with corporate policies and procedures.
3.4. Any other duties as may be assigned to you from time to time.
3.5. Trains, motivates, and manages subordinates to achieve their full potential.
3.6. Performs other duties as necessary to support efficient manufacturing operations.
3.7. Ensures that procedures and tools are in place to promote fast and accurate estimates.
Basis of Evaluation
The position is evaluated on the following bases :
1. Timeliness and accuracy of system data entry (e.g., COR's, daily reports, weekly constraint log, QA / QC reports, productivity tracking reports, Project Management software documents, etc.)
2. Compliance with QA / QC processes
3. Follow-up on action items
Requirements
1. 7 years of estimating experience in metal fabrication
2. Familiarity with sheet metal, cladding, and welded assemblies is big plus.
3. Proven expertise in reading and interpreting both construction and fabrication drawings.
4. Comprehensive understanding of metal fabrication processes and industry standards.
5. Experience with metal fabrication estimating systems
6. Track record of successful customer relationship management in a technical environment
7. Strong background in material selection and yield calculations / optimization.
8. Excellent computer skills, including Word, Excel, and one or more project management systems
9. Expert-level ability to read and interpret construction and fabrication drawings, including welding symbols, GD&T, and sheet metal bend calculations
10. Advanced knowledge of fabrication drawing standards and manufacturing notations
11. In-depth knowledge of metal fabrication processes, including cutting, forming, welding, and finishing processes.
12. Strong understanding of material properties and their impact on fabrication costs
13. Excellent negotiation skills with the ability to handle demanding customers professionally
14. Ability to make sound decisions under pressure while maintaining estimate accuracy
15. Clear communication abilities, both written and verbal
