Arconic is seeking a Quality Metallurgist to join our Aluminum Extrusion (AEX) business unit in Chandler, AZ.
Profile : The primary purpose of this role is to develop, control, troubleshoot, and improve all processes related to metallurgical properties of the products produced at Arconic Forgings and Extrusions, Chandler, AZ.
Essential Functions: The Quality Metallurgist within AEX requires technical and interpersonal skills essential to teamwork. General duties for the Quality Metallurgist include but are not limited to:
- Refine the processing limits of existing alloy systems to continually increase manufacturing robustness.
- Monitor and adjust the production process using statistical process control through analysis of processing parameters and metallurgical testing results to ensure that all requirements, both internal and external, are met.
- Support and follow the quality system to prevent any defective pieces from leaving the facility and reaching the customer.
- Review revisions in quality documentation to make sure that all technical requirements are met.
- Support production in metallurgy related daily activities.
- Disposition process violations in a timely manner.
- Prepare and submit concessions to the customer for review and disposition.
- Determine root causes of deviations and implement effective corrective and preventative actions to minimize future disruption to manufacturing.
- Improve all processes within the manufacturing line to minimize quality events.
- Work actively on continuous improvement and cost reductions to achieve the company’s financial objectives.
- Communicate regularly with internal employees and customers.
- Perform various department and/or company projects, including planning, organizing data collection, and presentation of results.
Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or Material Science from an accredited institution.
- A minimum of 1 years of relevant experience.
- Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
- This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. §730, et seq.) and/or the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Qualified candidate must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the relevant government agency. Business demands may require employer to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Quality Systems experience (ISO9001, AS9100, etc.)
- Experience in metals or aluminum industry
- Knowledge of aluminum alloys and properties
- Knowledge of casting and melting process
