Brief Summary
Provide comprehensive general dental care to North Slope residents of all ages (pediatric to geriatric), remote village travel to provide dental care, coverage for village “radio traffic” and "after hours call phone" as scheduled.
Essential Job Functions
· Examine teeth and periodontium for abnormalities of the mouth. Perform Oral Cancer Screenings.
· Review medical and dental histories.
· Discuss dental treatment plans and alternatives with patients.
· Provide preventative services for patients.
· Provide dental treatment within recognized professional standards of care in accordance with ASNA and IHS
· policies and clinical protocols.
· Participate in continual performance and quality improvement; provide timely and thorough clinical chart documentation.
· Provide dental health education services for both patients and staff.
· Support Prevention Coordinator with the Fluoride Program and School outreach Oral Hygiene Program.
· Provide after-hours “Dentist Available” services as scheduled by the Dental Clinic Director.
· Provide referrals for dental services not offered at the ASNA Dental Clinic.
· Work with the ANMC Dental for referrals, recommendations and advice concerning difficult cases.
· Work with SSMH physicians and pharmacy to provide the best possible care for compromised patients.
· Travel as required: to render care in remote villages, for meetings when indicated, and CE.
· Fulfill the job responsibilities of the Dental Clinic Director when called upon to be Acting Clinical Director.
· Meet terms as indicated in Dental Provider Contract.
· Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
· Doctoral degree, or equivalent, from a CODA accredited college, university, GPR program in Dentistry.
· Dentist has and will maintain a current unrestricted license to practice dentistry in the State of Alaska or another State of the U.S.A.
· Current CPR/BLS Card, NPI and DEA registration.
· Four years of clinical experience in practicing Dentistry preferred.
· Prior experience in a hospital based or Tribal/I.H.S./FQHC dental environment preferred.
Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· The Dentist should be familiar with all phases of Dentistry and be comfortable providing comprehensive dental care for both children and adults.
· Knowledge of local anesthetics and dental pharmaceuticals.
· Knowledge of standard dental clinic operations, infection control, sterilization practices, and delivery of care assistance of dental assistants and dental hygienists.
· Demonstrate organizational skills with attention to detail.
· Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
· Demonstrate professionalism, consideration and confidentially towards others.
