Position Description
Junior Accountant is responsible for maintaining ASTAC’s financial records, including those of its subsidiaries, with a focus on accuracy and timeliness. This role also participates in the preparation of regulatory reporting and provides general accounting support to the organization.
Principle Accountabilities
· Perform bookkeeping function timely (as outlined on monthly close schedule) and accurately complete assigned tasks for the monthly close process
· Maintain accurate and complete records
· Work with others, internally and externally, to ensure accuracy and timeliness of accounting processing
· Assist with special projects and conduct analyses as needed, as well as develop specialized reports and presentation materials upon request
· Perform general accounting activities such as reconciliations and journal entries
· Complete daily cash entries
· Provide backup to other functions as needed, specifically Accounts Payable and Billing to include coverage during absences
· Preparation and submission of federal and state regulatory reports timely and accurately
· Participate in regulatory reporting and data gathering including monitoring end user, miscellaneous receivables and CABS billings for irregularities and impacts on NECA and AECA reporting.
· Monitor the Regulatory Reporting calendar and ensure that reports are filed timely and alert direct supervisor regarding upcoming filing deadlines.
· Identify and evaluate new/changes to FCC and accounting standards. Brief direct manager regarding potential impact to ASTAC.
· Communicate with the audit team, consultants and others as needed.
· Automate processes to improve efficiency and reduce errors; continuously review assigned tasks for opportunities to automate.
Additional Responsibilities
· Sufficient equipment at your residence to ensure uninterrupted remote work at speeds close to speeds experienced while working in the office.
· Recommend changes and improvements to policies and procedures to improve service and cost effectiveness.
· Provide and support for ASTAC staff as needed
· Other duties as assigned.

· Ability to lift at least 50 pounds
· Ability to travel to service area sites as needed
· Ability to attend industry association meetings/training as needed
Measures of Performance
· Timeliness and accuracy of regulatory reporting requirements with zero late fees or penalties.
· Completes routine journal entries and GL reconciliations timely and accurately
· Keeps accurate records in compliance with FCC retention policies (both current and historical).
· Accuracy, completeness, and organization of records.
· Compliance with FCC and GAAP accounting standards as well as cooperative rules, regulations and standards.
· Timely and accurate compliance with federal and state reporting requirements
· Positive feedback from ASTAC staff on training and supporting related tasks
· Completion of SMART goals.
· Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including advanced functionality such as pivot tables, vlookups, etc.
· Working knowledge of and compliance with internal controls.
· Ensure all regulatory filing processes are always documented and up to date.
Education and Experience Required
· Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree in accounting or related field with two years’ experience (general accounting experience may be substituted for degree requirements at the discretion of the hiring manager)
· Telecommunications experience preferred.
