REQUIREMENT
A senior technician is needed to join the team performing research in the Turbine Research Facility (TRF). The TRF is a large-scale test facility that is part of the Aerospace Systems Directorate's (AFRL / RQ) Turbine Engine Division (AFRL / RQT). Research performed in the TRF is focused on aerodynamic, aerothermal, and aeroelastic research on full-scale turbines for advanced jet engines.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Member of a close-knit ARCTOS team that enables research activities conducted in the TRF. A primary role for this position is to assist in preparing the facility for testing, which includes performing expert mechanical work to build-up the rig for testing and tear-down the rig following testing. In addition, responsibilities include performing monthly inspections and periodic maintenance on numerous subsystems that are critical to TRF operation, such as vacuum pumps, hydraulic pumps, and chiller systems. Also, the candidate would play a critical role as a member of the team executing tests.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
A general working knowledge of turbine engines is desirable. Furthermore, a working knowledge of the various subsystems that you might find in a commercial / industrial facility (e.g., pumps, chillers, etc.) is also useful. The ability to work effectively in a small team is vital. Also, it is important that the candidate understand and adhere to safety protocols. Solid communication skills, both written and verbal, are also needed.
EDUCATIONAL, CLEARANCE AND CERTIFICATION
- Experience working hands-on with turbine engines is desirable
- Secret clearance is required (can be obtained after starting work)
- US Citizenship required
- Ce rtification is required in the following areas at a minimum (can be acquired on the job) :
Overhead lift / crane operation
