Summary
We are looking for an underwriting attorney to analyze title insurance risks, provide underwriting solutions, and advise on compliance issues with federal and state laws. This role involves title insurance underwriting residential and limited commercial transactions, conducting training seminars, and delivering excellent customer service. The ideal candidate will have a J.D. degree, at least 3 years of relevant experience, and be a member in good standing with the Florida Bar. Strong knowledge of Florida real property law and the title insurance industry, along with excellent communication and problem-solving skills, are essential.
Responsibilities
· Analyze title insurance risks, underwriting issues, and regulatory concerns
· Provide underwriting solutions to title agents, sales team, and title examiners in accordance with Westcor company guidelines as well as local, state, and federal law
· Provide underwriting guidance for residential as well as limited commercial transactions
· Present training seminars to educate title agents and production staff (both online and in-person)
· Provide outstanding customer service while making sound underwriting decisions
· Handle a high volume of underwriting inquiries via email and telephone in a timely, responsive, and professional manner
· Analyze and respond to indemnity requests
· Travel with sales staff for agent visits throughout the state
· Work well in a remote team environment
· Occasional travel required
Skills and knowledge
· Excellent understanding of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of real estate title and settlement process
Education:
· Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree
Experience:
· Minimum 3 years of experience concentrated in Florida real property and title insurance.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
· Thorough knowledge of Florida real property law and related areas as applicable to real property transactions
· Knowledge of the Florida title insurance industry
· Excellent oral and written communication skills
