As a Multi-Craft Maintenance Technician at Ardent Mills, you will be responsible for all aspects of mechanical and electrical maintenance at our Chester, IL facility. Responsibilities:
Safety and Food Safety:
- Perform all tasks in a safe and responsible manner. Engage in safety training and proactive safety behavior. Help maintain, update, and enforce procedures for the plant, and ensure that yourself and others are always choosing to execute work with safety and food safety at the forefront of all decisions and actions. Responsible for establishment and adherence to Food Safety and Quality, and Safety Maintenance policies in procedures in collaboration with the other work groups.
Predictive Preventative Maintenance:
- Perform advanced mechanical tasks and troubleshooting on any and all mechanical and electrical equipment during regular operations, downtime, and preventative maintenance schedules at the facility. Maintain and repair mechanical, electrical, electrical control, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems, milling and material handling equipment, grain elevator, and other various machinery. Assess and perform daily PM tasks. Maintain all tools/equipment and execute processes in the 5S, Pristine AMPS standards using process tools such as Centerline, 5S, understanding loss through 5why to create continuous improvement processes by determining Root Cause and Corrective Actions.
Administrative:
- Drive effective communication and documentation in support of daily operations and maintenance needs. Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure scheduling of activity and coordination of work. Work as expected in varying technologies and computer applications. Enter work order details as needed and independently make decisions safely in support of production and repairs. Inventory equipment and tools and consume parts as appropriate.
Sanitation:
- Maintain sanitation standards and clean work areas, ensuring thorough and impeccable cleaning is done prior to closing out the maintenance work being performed.
Project Work:
- Assist in project work as needed.
Essential Skills & Experience:
Key Requirements:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent with a minimum of 5 years of combined mechanical and electrical maintenance experience in an industrial environment or Mechanical/Electrical Maintenance Associates degree with a minimum of 2 years' combined mechanical and electrical experience in a maintenance role in an industrial environment.
- Basic skills with varying computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite, CMMS, or other Production or Maintenance technology, with the ability to quickly learn and use new technology.
- Demonstrated experience performing maintenance activities, including but not limited to: Predictive and Preventative technologies, electrical and mechanical troubleshooting, CMMS (Computer Maintenance Management Systems), maintenance processes, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), equipment/energy isolation, RCA (Root Cause Failure Analysis).
- Demonstrated Safety Champion Behaviors.

- Continued Education, including Associates Degree, Technical or Trade certifications, Apprentice program hours, or Training and Education specific to Electrical and/or Maintenance.
- Mill Production or Food Production experience, including working knowledge of Food Safety requirements and procedures.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Work Environment:
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by the operating areas (i.e., safety glasses, protective footwear, hard hat, hearing protection, and, at times, a respirator).
- Ability to work a machine-paced continuous process that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with conditions including heat/cold temperatures (inclement weather), indoor/outdoor environment, dusty environment (including Wheat/Gluten allergens), noisy environment, frequent moving/vibration, or other motion of equipment/processes, elevated places, etc.
Additional Considerations:
- Must be able to read, interpret instruction, and technology and communicate effectively in English.
- Must have willingness for continued education, training, and development in Maintenance Practices and Programs (including other department operations), to include infrequent scheduled travel to training or other Ardent Mills locations.
- Maintenance standard schedule will be days; however, you must be willing to work alongside the broader team, including long days, or varying shifts (days, evenings, and nights) as well as overtime, weekend, or holiday work.
