Position Overview : Ardent Technologies is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Research Project Engineer to support the CAStLE program at the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA). This position involves managing deliverables, preparing reports, overseeing contractual projects, and assisting with the scheduling and maintenance of Applied Mechanics Lab (AML) equipment. The ideal candidate will bring a strong engineering or scientific background combined with program / project management expertise.

Key Responsibilities :

1. Review of Deliverables :

Conduct weekly reviews of contractor deliverables such as Contract Funds Status Reports (CFSRs), status reports, task schedules, and other task-specific deliverables.
Assess deliverables for timeliness, quality, and completeness, and identify performance issues or areas for improvement.
Provide weekly status updates to the CAStLE Director or Deputy Director, including annotations to invoicing spreadsheets and staff meeting notes.

2. Summary Task Reporting :

Prepare monthly or quarterly summary task reports for the CAStLE Director and designated customers.

Highlight task progress, late deliverables, integrated schedules, and recommendations for corrective actions.

3. Contractually Supported Projects :

Assist in authoring Work Statements and associated Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL).

Provide task effort estimates and coordinate with CAStLE customers and the 10th Contracting Squadron on performance issues.

Recommend corrective actions to improve project outcomes.

4. Applied Mechanics Lab (AML) Equipment Management :

Support the scheduling, maintenance, and calibration of AML equipment to ensure efficient operations aligned with USAFA curriculum priorities.

Monitor expendable materials and assist with procurement activities.

Contribute to AML life cycle management by recommending maintenance plans and life cycle replacement solutions.

5. Document Preparation :

Prepare documents using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and occasionally convert to PDF format.

Deliver approximately 36-48 documents annually, with a focus on end-of-fiscal-year and semester deadlines.

About You : The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience :

Minimum Qualifications :

Bachelor's degree (or higher) in science or engineering.

At least 5 years of experience in science or engineering.

Three or more years of experience in program / project management.

Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Adobe Acrobat.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Familiarity with AML equipment in the following areas :

Metallography and fractography

Materials characterization

Mechanical and environmental testing

Prototype, test specimen, and part fabrication

Desired Qualifications :

Bachelor's or advanced degree in science or engineering with a minimum of 15 years' experience.

Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

Five or more years of experience with government contracting processes and contract vehicles.

Five or more years of experience with aircraft procurement, maintenance, or operations.

Experience managing software development projects and using software analysis tools.

Knowledge of Earned Value Management Techniques / Tools (e.g., Budgeted Cost of Work Performed, Actual Cost of Work Performed).

Familiarity with military environments and communication protocols.
