ACES nursing department is seeking a daily substitute-nurse for the agency serving students with multiple disabilities and physical challenges. Opportunity to work with a dynamic interdisciplinary team.
Job Brief:
The nurse uses accepted standards of practice to assess, manage and treat student health issues, according to established plan of care, medication or treatment authorization, and in compliance with department procedures, agency policies, and district regulations and statutes.
Skills in:
- Problem-solving and utilizing the nursing process in routine and new situations
- Addressing the physical and emotional needs of students by being approachable, using effective communication skills, and actively participating in teamwork
- Basic computer and software use
Ability to:
- Prioritize, organize, triage, and meet deadlines
- Keep track of various issues, projects and responsibilities
- Maintain appropriate ethical considerations, including therapeutic boundaries and confidentiality
- Work independently and collaborate effectively with an interdisciplinary team
- Identify and seek appropriate resources to meet professional learning needs
- Document in a timely manner, using clear, concise, complete professional language
Delegates medication administration when appropriate to non-nursing staff. (delineate who supervises what-Nurse Practice ACT)

Physical ability to bend or stoop to assist a student, lift an object weighing 15 pounds, pivot transfer a student if needed, move quickly within the building, and perform CPR. Hearing (including adapted hearing) adequate to assess vital signs. Fine motor coordination adequate for such tasks as to applying a dressing, removing a splinter or administering and injection.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. The work environment may have a low to moderate noise level. The school building may be large and spread out. On occasion the nurse may participate in a field trip which requires travelling on school bus and working in off-site indoor or outdoor settings.
